So I am wanting peoples thought on it, but I am going to say it Spoiler-free for now as much as possible:

Personally I thought it was a nice and grimdark change than what the original series, but I thought it was ill-executed in some parts of the movie. I felt like the characters reaction to Shinji could have been a bit more realistic and focused more on how they felt and had to go through in the 14-year time-skip. The story was amazing still, although it did mostly focus on Shinj and Kaworu (which he got the much needed screen time, which I though Mari could have used too). And of course the Musical score and animation is top notch for its time in my opinion, and I felt the end battle was amazing.

Overall Review on it: It was not as bad as some people made it out to be, but I felt it was more of Filler/ Leading up to 4.0, so for now I think it is the weakest Rebuild of it all but it is one needed to build up to 4.0. Overall I say it would be 7.25/10.

I haven't seen 3.0 yet. I did like the first two rebuild movies. They are working great as a different version retelling. I am interested to see where they are going to take 3.0 since the divergence looks massive from here on out now.

Oh yeah, the Divergence is very massive, and much darker.
