Hi everybody, if this is already a post somewhere, sorry about this. I looked but I did not see this question when I searched the forum.

So, for the question, what looks better, feet IN the ground or ON the ground on the bases? If they were not Eldar, this would be easier, but Eldar are supposed to not weight anything substantial compared to a space marine... What do you guys do or think? The attached pictures are terrible, I know, but I think they might illustrate what I am talking about. Please ignore the horrible paint jobs, they are one coat, no primer. They were just for the demonstration.

Personally unless doing something like a wet mud look on the base I'd do them feet on top.

Also remember the 3 foot rule. If this is gonna be on the table top, people are gonna be looking at from about 3 feet away and really aren't gonna notice any difference.

Thanks for the reply! I understand the 3-foot rule, but I am finding I am obsessed with getting it exactly right. I am going by the magnifying glass rule lol.

If you want the feet to look like they're on top of the basing material, you can either base the model after you put the base together (which is what I do). If you want to put the model on the base before you put your basing material down, you can stand it on something (plasticard, green stuff, etc) to make it slightly taller. You should be able to find plenty of tutorials on that technique on here.

Personally, I prefer the models to be standing on top of the basing material.

Thanks so much for the idea about putting something beneath their feet to make the taller! I wanted them to be on the material, but I did not like how high they were on it. To me with my models, they seemed to be floating on the ground. This would give me some sort of middle ground. I am going to have to try it!
