So I've done a few conversions by now on my army. A cool pose here, some extra spikes there, minor stuff. This is my first attempt at what I would call a bigger conversion, that is, converting a Finecast model.
I beat my head against the desk for not making a proper "step-by-step" photoshoot of this, but I hope I can explain with just this one half finished photo to show for. I was also hoping to inspire some of you new converters out there like me.

To me, Typhus is awesomely badass as a character. Fat, smelly, evil and wielding a Manreaper. However, his original pose is kinda... meh. He looks too passive, and not badassy enough even with his Manreaper. So I made some changes:

The original idea was to make him point with his left hand, but Finecast is too hard to manipulate like that so that beckoning gesture was easier to make. Either way, he looks more up for a challenge now and less like a hockey player.

So, what I did was:

1. Saw his left arm off, and get a replacement terminator arm attached.

2. Cut the left hand off from the Manreaper, and then glue the the "gap" together.

3. With a knife or small file, hollow out his left hand. This was the hard part! Had I paid for the model myself I wouldn't have dared done this, but it was a gift so what the heck, right?
Hint: You might want to snip off the thumb on this hand, so it's easier to file down that little chunk of Manreaper shaft he's still holding. Don't lose that thumb, and use tweezers!

4. With a thin blade, slice down between his index and middle finger, to release that index finger from the rest of the fist. The Finecast is -just- flexible enough to let you bend that free finger forward, and the other fingers back without snapping anything off. Use tweezers here too. If you're steady and patient you'll end up with a left hand as pictured above.

5. Reattach the thumb, if you haven't lost it.

6. Attach this remodelled hand to the replacement terminator arm, and bingo!

The right hand is pretty easy to readjust so he holds the weapon one-handed. I placed him on that "rock" base you get with your standard Chaos Terminator Lord.

I hope my guide made sense there. If you want I can probably draw up some sketches to illustrate.

I might add more conversions to him, and then of course paint him, so more pics will come soon!
