As tradition goes, after a visit to our great
FLGS Fanatix of Dothan for some league games followed by dinner, beers, and ogling our favorite waitress at the Bee’s, we head off to Evil Lair for some late night
40k and socializing (aka more beer and watching late night MTV and horrible SciFi movies).
After listening to Chandler moan all night about not getting a game in at Fanatix, I agree to play him under the stadium lights of the Evil Lair. (Side note: Chandler’s kitchen table sits under a chandelier light and the away team side gets rather warm and as such have been renamed the stadium lights.) Chandler is eager to try out his newly started Thousand Sons themed Chaos army and Mothra and I are more than ready to face it. After asking how many points I had on me, we decided to make Chandler’s first battle under the banner of Chaos an epic one: a 2v1 battle of 3k of Chaos (1500 Nurgle/1500 Tzeentch) against 3k of Hive Fleet Choji.

We roll up Relic with Dawn of War deployment and no night fighting turn 1. Tyranids win the roll for first turn and decide to deploy first.
I use my Gargoyle Screen to conceal my Tervigon and Zoans. Mothra and a Tervigon hide in a ruin while Flyrant #2 takes cover behind a foam bunker. (We’re still working on terrain for the Evil Lair)
(Forgot to get a pic of Chaos Deployment, will remember next time) Chaos Deploy all 5 Rhinos center of the board in order to charge toward the Relic. The Two Defilers sit on each board corner with pie plates warming in the oven. 2 Plague Obliterators sit in the right Ruins while 3 Tzeentch Obliterators stand atop a bunker toward the center. The Chaos Vindicator sits in between the Oblits and Defi on the left side.
The Fabricator General attempts to seize the initiative but remains slow and purposeful.
Tyranid Turn 1:
Mothra casts Endurance on himself while the Tervigons cast
FNP on the Gargoyles and Hormies. No babies are spawned this turn to allow for easy movement. Gargoyles and Flyrants rush toward the center of the board to contest the Relic. The Flyrants unload into the
TS Rhino but are only able to remove 2 Hull points.
No one else is in range of anything so they all just run forward a bit.
Chaos Turn 1:
The Plague Marines move up and disembark, preparing to roast some Gargoyles for dinner. The Vindicator moves backwards 3” and loads its cannon. The
TS Rhino with one remaining
HP moves into the terrain in front of the relic and immobilizes itself giving First Blood to the Tyranids. The Thousand Sons are able to disembark 6” into the terrain.
The second
TS Rhino disembarks as well and it’s time for the dakka to begin. The Vindicator and
TS Defiler fire pie plates onto the Hormagaunts but scatter only killing four. The
TS Obliterators fire their plasma onto the Hormagaunts but scatter only hitting the Tervigon and failing to wound. The
TS squad in the ruin double taps the Gargoyles while the Plague Marines flame and double tap killing all but two.
The back
TS squad rapid fires into Flyrant #2 causing no wounds and failing to ground him. The combi-bolter on the Rhino hits and fails to wound but does cause him to come plummeting to the ground. Rhino storm bolters have grounded and killed more of my Flyrants than Psycannon Grey Knights inside an aegis defense line with a quad gun has. Luckily for me, Chandler rolls a

on the grounding wound. The Plague Defiler drops a hot pie plate vaporizing one of my flanking Zoanthropes, while the Plague Obliterators fire multi-meltas at the grounded Flyrant taking away a wound.
Tyranid Turn 2 Reserve Rolls: Doom – in, Trygon – in, Trygon – in, Carnifex – in, Ymargls – in, Devilgants – no go boss.
The Doom comes down with a direct hit almost on top of the Relic and gets out with two squads within soul sucking range. The Dakkafex scatters back to the left of the Doom but is able to get out within 6” right in front of the Plague Marine squad.
The Ymargls pop up in the back ruins with the Plague Obliterators and Defiler ready to nom nom on some juicy Chaos heavy supports.
One Trygon pops up in the open field in front of the
TS Obliterators and Vindicator while the other arrives with a direct hit behind the Plague Marine Squad, in between another Plague Rhino and the
TS squad that downed the Flyrant.
Endurance is cast on Mothra,
FNP cast on the grounded Flyrant, and
FNP cast on the Hormagaunts. Babies are spawned with the center Tervigon rolling 2-2-1 while the flanking one rolls 6-3-3. Mothra swoops to the back board edge landing next to the Vindicator while Flyrant #2 walks into the edge of ruins ready to devour some automatons. The remaining two Gargoyles jump over the rocks ready to charge the Plague Marines. The babies all move toward the relic with the five man squad picking it up. The center Tervigon moves to support them as well as the Hormagaunts while the flanking Tervigon continues to move toward the
TS Defiler.
Mothra fires his
TL Devourers into the Vindicator scoring two penetrating hits and two weapon destroyed results, effectively eliminating the Vindicator from the game. The Doom sucks two wounds from the Plague Marines but the Thousand Sons pass their check. Dakkafex fires into the plague marines killing 3 reducing them to 5. Flyrant #2 turns on the dakka and kills 7 Thousand Sons in the ruins. “This is what happens, Larry!” is heard yelled from the living room as the Warmaster Rob 1.0 learns of this atrocity.
The Trygon Prime meanwhile explodes the Plague Rhino killing one Plague Marine and the two remaining Gargoyles. The other Trygon shoots at the
TS Obliterators putting a wound on one of them. The Doom attempts to Psychic Shriek the
TS squad in the back but it is denied.
The Flyrant attempts to charge the remaining
TS squad but fails to make through the ruins while the Ymargls make short work of the Plague Obliterators.
Chaos Turn 2: The Helldrake arrives zooming on to the board and vector striking Mothra in the process. The Helldrake causes 4 wounds and Mothra fails all of his
FNP rolls. Warlord goes to Chaos. This game is tied at 1-1 with the Relic currently in the grasp of the Tyranids. The Plague Marines in the remaining Rhino disembark as “Johnny Manziel” prepares to deal with the Trygon Prime.
The reduced Plague Marine squad decides to attempt the “Tchaikovsky Gambit” and assault the Dakkafex while staying in range of the Doom’s Soul Leech. Two more Plague Marines die to the Doom’s ability leaving only the Power fist and two other. The
TS Obliterators fire Lascannons into the Doom but fail to wound him. Doombolt is fired from the Sorcerer and causes a wound as well as a wound from bolter fire to the Prime. The Plague Marines from the ruined Rhino and Johnny Manziel’s squad fire into the Trygon causing 2 more wounds.
Helldrake activates his bale forge and flames the 5 man gant unit holding the Relic.
The Plague Defiler uses his heavy flamer and auto cannons on the Ymargls killing six and charges killing another two. The Plague Marines charge the Dakkafex causing 3 wounds while one dew boy dies in combat. The Sorcerer’s squad charges the Prime, challenges him to combat, and promptly fails all of his invulnerable saves, dying like a chump. The other Thousand Sons squad charges the Flyrant losing two guys on the charge, the aspiring sorcerer challenges but neither the him nor the Flyrant causes any wounds.
Tyranid Turn 3: Reserves: Devilgants – still watching valley girl movies on Netflix.
With most still locked in combat, the Doom moves to assist the Trygon getting as many squads in range of his ability as possible. The Hormagaunts move and pick up the objective while
FNP is cast on the Flyrant in
CC.
Triple 6 is rolled by the Plague Father and more Plague Marines fill the Doom with life empowering him to a fearsome 10 wounds. The Trygon not in
CC turns and fires his Bio-Electric Pulse into the ass end of the Helldrake and destroys the Bale-flamer. With nothing else really to shoot at the Zoans attempt to fire their warp lance at the Helldrake rolling a lucky 6 to hit. The lance penetrates and immobilizing the Helldrake causing it to remain zooming for the rest of the game.
In close combat, the Defiler finishes off the Ymargls while the Power fist Plague Marine ends the Dakkafex’s rampage. An Aspiring Sorcerer challenges the Trygon Prime and is quickly turned to dust. The Aspiring Sorcerer and the Flyrant end their fight with the Flyrant crushing the shattered remains of the Sorcerer beneath his feet.
Chaos Turn 3: The Helldrake zooms off the board into ongoing reserves while everyone else prepares themselves for the Tyranid monstrosities. At the beginning of shooting, the Power Fisted Plague Marine succumbs to the Doom of Malan’tai. Filled with the souls of chaos the Doom laughs as the
TS Obliterators fire their multi-meltas at him, only to be turned into a messy pile of flaming exoskeleton a second later. The Plague Defiler evaporates the loan Zoan who had been moving up the flank the entire game while the
TS Defiler blasts a hole in the middle of Hormagaunts squad.
In
CC the squad of Plague Marines lead by “Johnny Manziel” joins the fight against the Trygon Prime. At initiative 5 with Flesh bane, Johnny challenges and makes short work of the Prime gaining Witch Eater from the boon chart.
“Way to go, Johnny,” Chandler exclaimed.
“I don’t know why these

keep calling me “Johnny”. My name is Darren.”
“Bam!” The Plague Father yelled. “Write it down. His name is Darren, aka, Johnny Manziel!”
Tyranid Turn 4: The Devilgants finally decided to show up to the fight.
Firing a salvo of 60 shots into the Thousand Sons Squad and causing 22 wounds, the remaining automatons fall to might of the Tyranids. With the Mycetic spores blocking off most of the paths to the Relic…
…and realizing it was already 7am, the Chaos commanders decide to concede the match. With the Vindicator and Helldrake out of commission, the relic would have been easily passed on to the Tervigon whose toughness should have outlasted the Defilers. But all in all it was a fun game and a good chance for Chandler to learn about his new army.
...Off in the distance the Lord of Flies watches in disgust as the powerful forces of Chaos are sent running from an overgrown butterfly.
Unable to allow this atrocity to continue any longer, Typhus joins the fight and in one fell swoop of his scythe, ends the reign of the monstrous Tervigon and claims the relic for himself.
Hope you enjoyed and I hope to bring you more matches from the Evil Lair every week.
