I do prefer a darker green, but looks good man! Which manufacturer is that? The gun looks awesome!

Nice work, looks ace for a 1st time out. What paints did you use?

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Thanks all Yes, it is from Open Fire, the paints are GW old and new, mainly Knarloc Green (old) with Agrax Earthshade (new) wash. Hard to go wrong slopping that stuff all over. Having a go at German infantry next.

Edit - and here they are. Can't do faces at this scale, but I think it's pretty clear they are a Rifle/MG squad.

Will try and tidy them up a bit.

Completed the Shermans -

7 more tanks done in less time that it took me to paint 6 hormagaunts last weekend Drilled the 76mm, not sure it's possible to drill to standard Sherman gun, certainly beyond me. Hope you like them.

Going to do the Stugs the same grey I've done the German Infantry. Is this heresy? I just prefer the grey look to the camo, for the moment at least.

Edit - some (slightly) better pics

I would suggest Grey if it was an early war assault gun. For Early War I used normal Grey on my Early War Tanks and Vehicles.

In Mid-War, Late War, most STuG's/ Vehicles were Dunkelgelb, a kind of Golden-dirty yellow or a Camo Scheme (e.g not grey).

I use Vallejo's Middlestone, but I have also used Iyanden Darksun before too.

My Late War jagdpanzer IV's in a plain Dunkelgelb with no Camo.

My LW / MW Stugs (painted with Citadel Foundation paints, before I invested in Vallejo paints across the board)

I did the same Colour Scheme with my Panzer IV's/

The German's had a huge amount of variation in their Camo schemes so you can have some real fun with them.... Check out this link:-

Thanks very much, I like the 17.SS-PzGrenDiv scheme on the second page, might try something similar to that.

Nice work on the Shermans.
I, for one, am very thankful for the variations of german armor camo... mine look like they were painted with a mop!

Nice job! I know when I started painting this scale, it was tough finding the median for how much highlight to do.

The army sure gets painted a lot faster though then with 28mm scale.

I've had a few friends blow me away with their painting ability when they switched to 15mm FoW from 28mm 40k. A change in scale can do wonders for a person.

You've obviously had no trouble coping with the smaller scale. Your tanks look ace and your infantry team is great!

Don't sweat the colors too much. Historical "experts" will argue colors all day long. It's not like they were ever like "What this is the wrong shade of green! Send it back immediately!" lol

War time they slapped paint on things to break up the profile.
Some sat in the sun more than others. Some had been through a few more water holes, and mud, etc. Dust, dirt, people walking on them.

I think the debate on what color the standard german uniform was is still on-going. Some say grey but some historical examples actually are a green-grey color, some look more green.

Mass production with limited resources = random stuff happens.

Thanks for all the advice chaps.

More Open Fire -

Complete so far -

More pics in the gallery. The camo didn't turn out quite like I expected, interesting to give it a try anyway.

I have ordered a Typhoon and Tiger from Dark Sphere, which will bring the Allied and German forces to 1000 and 1005 points respectively when everything is complete. All I need then is an opponent. Will end up playing both sides.

The last model, with a 15cm plastic ruler for the base, 'Open Fire!' completely complete.

And with the addition of a Tiger (with a borked engine made-up rule, half movement distance to knock off 5 points) -

And a Typhoon, with the most untransferrable transfers I have ever encountered, 2 hours of various temperature water experiments couldn't coax them off the sheet, nvm -

I have a 1000 point game, based on the simple lists in the Open Fire book. I've read the rulebook and am going to try some games whilst I make a start on US 4th Armoured. Very happy I found FoW, thanks Dakka

Good post. The same could be said for faces. At this scale, who would notice less than perfect faces?
