ok so here is my first army build, before i buy anythig and im going for mid war USSR heavy tank guard corp

HQ

Gvardeyskiy Tyazhelyy Tankovy Polk HQ p.187

1x - KV-1s -165pts

Combat Companies

Gvardeyskiy Tyazhelyy Tankovy Company p.187
3x - KV-1s - 495pts

Gvardeyskiy Tyazhelyy Tankovy Company p.187
3x -KV-1s - 495pts

Corps Support

Heavy Assault Gun Company(Guards) p.233
2x - SU-152 - 280pts

8x - katyusha bm-13 - 275pts
4x weapon upgrade's

i was hoping the kv-1's will go meduim tank hunting, the SU-152's will go big tank hunting and the katyusha's with the weapons upgrades will mash the infentary with the 12" barrage. and these guards dont suffer from hen + chicken! all are fearless + trained.

also this has a low £££ output aswell

what do you think?

Wrexham, United Kingdom.

The KV-1 is an awesome tank!

I think you should get some infantry though. If that list comes up against a pure infantry list with lots of Panzershrecks and Panzerfausts you will run into trouble! You need your own infantry to sit on objectives and to support your tanks (and vice versa).
Still, KV-1's are a good choice, and an overlooked one at that. Too many Soviet players go for obvious lists like T-34 hordes and a bunch of monstrous IS-2's.
Soviet infantry can be a bitch to paint purely because there are so many of them, and they put players off sometimes because they are usually poorly trained or mediocre, but you still need them. Perhaps go for some more elite infantry like engineers, or even just a small recon platoon?

Your list is a good one to start with though, and it's good that you have picked different things to do different jobs!

Cheers guys, I completely take it on board, I can get the rocket bonus with just 7 katusha's so may try that and try to squeze in a small platoon of infantry in the future but will go with that for now and see how it goes. As im guessing tanks cant hold objectives? ?

Anything can hold objectives apart from things like spotters. Still, get some inf in there and see how it works out. Whilst tanks are ok for sitting on objectives, they really ought to be using their mobility or they will become bait for artillery.
Same goes for the katyushas; their effectiveness will drop pretty quick if they are hit by counter-battery fire, so having a few more "ablative" trucks might keep them firing and in the game longer.
