I'm considering including a unit of Chosen and a Warshrine in my army, but I really don't want to pay $90 for 10 models (by which I mean I can't afford to do it). I'd much rather (read: can afford to) convert a box of Warriors into Chosen for $35. But, what would be a good way to do this?

They'll be easily distinguishable since they won't have the same weapon kit between the blocks, but I'm not sure what will create enough visual distinction for them to pass as chosen beyond having one set-up instead of the other. Three ideas I've had thus far:

Put them on something on their bases. Maybe rocks?

Green stuff some extra fur to the shoulders, maybe close the cloak across the chest, and possibly add fur trim to gloves/boots.

Use a bunch of extra helmets from champion/knights sprues that will (hopefully) look decidedly fancier than regular warrior helmets.

Anyone have some other ideas that will make them look Chosen?

Dark Eldar could potentially enslave the galaxy.
Necrons could potentially destroy everything.
Chaos could potentially slaughter everyone.
Tyranids could potentially eat everyone.

Tau could potentially raise prices on import good from the Eastern Fringe.

I think fancying up the base will work, and be cheapest. You can get some cork board and break it up to give each a little platform. I did this with my Tzeentch block's champion, and it looks really solid I think, plus it's super simple to do and it makes the model visibly different because of the height.

Just basing wouldn't make them look like anything other than taller warriors.

A couple of mutations, perhaps? Maybe using the ones from the 40k Possessed set, some of them are pretty neat. Chop 'em up near the shoulder and stick 'em in the arm hole.
