Hey Dakka!

My copy of Open Fire! arrived the other day and I have a few questions. As I've never even been near a 15mm mini before, I wondered wether it was feasible to base the Infantry before painting them? I was going to spend my day off tommorow basing then playing all day. However, I might just be able to hold my Geek Gene in check long enough if its preferable to paint the Infantry first.
If I was to paint them first, would it be better to blutack them onto an old lollipop stick? Or do each one indvidually, tacked onto an old paintpot?

If anyone can help that would be awesome, as FoW has really reignited my gaming flame and I'm really looking forward to a day of glue and geekery tommorow!

Hey welcome to the war!

I personally, clean the model remove mold lines etc, glue then to the base. Cover base in poly filler (hides the cracks) add texture (sand/gravel etc) then spray black, paint the base first, then the mini, then add flock static grass etc

Cheers Dude! That's a help for sure. I'm actually pretty excited about playing it to be honest. I'm a beyond jaded 40k player and having sold all my 40k stuff I'm branching out and starting FoW with a vengeance!
I'll be posting pictures tommorow of whatever finished minis I can get done. Thanks again!

It's up to you if you want to base then paint or vice versa. Personally I find it easier to paint the figures while they're attached to a popsicle stick according to the squad, and then base them afterwards. I've got it down to a science as far as how to get them onto the base and have it colored without ruining the paintjob (I assume this is why people base then paint as it allows you to avoid that bit)

Just my 2 cents

Hello man ! I find very difficult to paint already glued minis on the bases mostly because some of them are quite dynamic and when all are combined it can be very tricky to paint everywhere.

So, my workflow :

- fix the minis temporarily on their bases with some glue pads
( for posters),
- black/white spray them
- paint the base (better not paint in the base holes; removing the minis will help a lot)
- paint the minis (keep them on their bases. you can move them on their axis while on the pads, easy accessing all the coins). I use the usual GW workflow : base, wash and lighten
- remove pads, glue the minis and fill the gaps
- flock/ add static herb

With practice, you can paint one platoon in 2/2 and a half hours. Not the quickest, but the results are good.

Hope that helps.
