I'm a bit new to table top wargaming. I've been a big fan of 40k ever since some friends of mine told me about it in highschool, but I've never played the game. I decided to purchase some marines to teach me how to play, but my heart really belongs to the Imperial Guard. One cannot deny the urge to bury the enemy in copious amounts of explosive ordinance. I've been lurking around the forums a bit trying to leach some gaming wisdom, and now that I'm finally putting together an army I could definitely use the guidance. Thanks to all in advance! Maybe one day I'll even be able to contribute some of my own hard won knowledge.

I'm new to 40k, played a little Fantasy here and there.

Unfortunately for me, I've succumbed to the GW trap of buying a bunch of stuff because it looks cool before trying it out...

I'm struggling with what kind of lists to make... got the Black Reach Kit (sold Orks), two Dark Vengeance kits, a battleforce each for SM and Chaos Marines.

I really want to do Salamanders but also really like Blood Angels.. help! And Chaos just looks dope so I couldn't stay away.

Welcome to dakka! I suggest making a new topic, so more people will note, wich means more 'welcome to dakka!' posts

As for the Space Marines, why not make your own chapter and use the Blood Angel rules or something like that? You get to use the special Blood Angel units, and can make your own paint scheme. You can even ally them with Salamanders, or vica-verca.
