In order to curb chaos annexation of planets in Craton system the 51st Pantanus mechanized have arrived on Craton III to bolster the imperial forces assaulting the planet. C company led by Captain Lachlan has arrived to the fight two days after planet fall and has been tasked with locating an object giving off strange energy signatures.

We have the objective in sight captain, direct front atop the ruins of the temple. Be advised we are not alone; there are chaos demons en masse.

1st platoon move up to the ruins and secure those crystals. 2nd platoon cover 1st platoon. Demolishers pick a side and cover it. All units you have permission to fire at will.

With a thunderous clap rolling down the battle field both demolishers simultaneously open up on demon units accompanied by lasgun and multilaser fire. After the dust settles it is apparent that the demons have taken massive casualties on both flanks. A torrent of foul psychic energy hit one of 1st platoon’s chimeras causing it to explode. Lieutenant Callum saw the surevivors duck in the crater as another torrent of war energy bombarded the position.

Private I can’t raise any of those men on the comms get over to that crater and tell them to move up to the ruins and take up better positions.

Wordlessly the soldier grabbed his lasgun and left the confines of the chimera and approached the crater. He returned moments later pale as marble with a terrible expression on his face.

What is it soldier?

Well sir, I approached the crater to pass on your orders but as I approached the air itself seemed wrong and I had an uneasy feeling. I arrived at the crater and the only evidence that another squad had been there was the foot deep pool of blood at the bottom. There were no corpses, no equipment, and no wreckage it was all simply gone sir.

Callum was about to reply when he saw the demons charge towards their aggressors and a previously unseen demon prince take flight.

Captain this is demolisher Steel Wall we have an enemy demon prince flying toward our position.

Stand by Steel Wall air cover is on the way.

Flying low and fast a vendetta closes the distance with the flying monstrosity and hits it with its lascannons grievously wounding it and knocking it from the sky. Captain Lachlan looked at his retinue then opened the top hatch. He noticed the demon down and Lieutenant Callum moving into position with his chimera as well as one of his platoon’s chimeras.

Right lads, there is the biggest damn demon I have ever seen right outside this tank and we are going to hit it with everything we’ve got.

But sir! Shouldn’t we kill the enemy space marines first?

First of all Sergeant Brumby those are horrible little pink demons not space marines and no Steel Wall shall continue to attack them but we must not let that large demon close ranks with us.

Lieutenant Callum however had already come to this conclusion and had already had his veterans open up with their plasma and also his nearby 1st squad open up with their melta effectively dropping the demon prince. Lachlan looked around over the chimera and saw Lieutenant Laird had moved up the side of the temple towards the objective.

From his vantage point atop the temple Lieutenant Laird directed the battle down the right flank moving up his 2nd squad alongside the Demolisher Rolling Thunder and one of 2nd platoons veteran squads. Sergeant Duncan in his vanquisher had gone hull down waiting for a target of opportunity but finding none was now lending its fire against the still approaching pink horrors. Unaware of the imminent danger behind him, not till the warp itself burned him and his men from existence leaving nothing but a charred outline on the ruins. The units on the ground took no notice of the events as they hammered away at the mob of demons.

Captain, this is Lieutenant Callum sir, I have bad news there are enemy units behind us.

How many, lieutenant?

All of them sir

The demon reinforcements quickly used their psychic talents to attack the chimeras. Lieutenant Callum’s chimera was wrecked in the opening salvo and a few of his men were killed as they exited the wreckage of their chimera.

And moved in the direction of the demon that had just killed Lieutenant Laird.

All units this is Captain Lachlan fall back and attack the enemy units behind us!

Quick to obey his orders the demolisher turned their guns and fired on the nearest hordes wiping out over half of them with their main weapons. The chimeras moved up and doused the area in promethium to purge the area clean of chaos filth. The men inside the chimeras kept the rear covered with their lasguns taking out a few more of the demons they had previously been engaging till only a few remained. Callum’s squad moved out of cover and dispatched the remainder of one of the demon mobs.
Unfortunately for Callum a few of the other demons from another mob had survived the cascade of fire…

Squad we have to pull back and take up defensive positions to cover the rear so let’s move out…

One of his men called out in alarm as the sniveling demons fell upon them some of the men tried to fire back but it was no use the demons were on them too quickly. Callum managed to beat down one of them with his plasma pistol before a claw slid between two of his ribs and he drifted into unconsciousness. The last remaining demons unconcerned about him moved toward the captain who’s chimera had also been wrecked and was now sheltering next to Steel Wall. On the other side a giant space chicken stumbled around the corner in front of Steel Wall and let out a startled squawk. A laser shot from its face but in its startled moment the laser flew off into the air.

Content that the immediate threat had been neutralized 2nd squad of 2nd platoon turned their chimera to attack a mob of demons that was moving in from the front so that they couldn’t kill Captain Lachlan who had moved his men into a better position to barbeque the space chicken with their plasma weaponry. Analyzing the situation on the ground the vendetta pilot thought it best to follow suit.

FIRE! FIRE EVERYTHING DAMNIT! I WANT TO HAVE FRIED CHIKEN TONIGHT INSTEAD OF THE CRAP RATIONS WE’RE GIVEN SO KILL THIS THING!

In a torrential assault of plasma and las the chicken was cooked to a crisp. Too much of a crisp. There would be no chicken for the guardsmen that night. With a discontented sigh Lachlan turned to look at the objective and noticed in all the commotion that ANOTHER mob of demons were absconding with it.

ALL UNITS MOVE ON THE TEMPLE NOW! WE CAN NOT LET THOSE DEMONS GET AWAY WITH THOSE CRYSTALS!

2nd platoon’s 1st squad and 1st platoon’s 3nd squad did not hesitate to charge their chimeras up the side of the temple.

Driver, go around there is no ramp for us to get up the side of the temple

I’ll make a ramp sarge…

The demolisher and vanquisher had enough sense to just go around and take better positions.

Lachlan was taking a short breather when he noticed a lone demon nearby. He calmly walked over to it with what was left of his squad and pointed his pistol at its head.

He pulled the trigger and… it exploded. It had been used to hard fighting the chicken and the demon prince and could be used no more. In a fit of blind fury the captain hurled himself at the demon and began to beat it with the useless weapon.

Captain use your powerfist

I CAN’T!

Why not?

I have no batteries!

What?

Yeah this thing takes D batteries and do you know how expensive those are? I could only afford enough to power this plasma pistol!

The third mob of demons, who had appeared too far away to be much help in the rear assault, was now caught up and feeling left out of the battle. They hit the chimera atop the hill with a psychic barrage and not waiting for another one to hit the sergeant ordered his men out and down the opposite side of the hill and not a moment too soon. Another barrage hit the chimera and utterly wrecked it. The sergeant in the other chimera had done the same and disembarked his men to kill the last remaining demons.

The crystals were loaded on the vendetta and sent back to base while the surviving guardsmen went over the battle field to salvage what they could and see to the burial of their fallen brethren.

Lieutenant Callum roused from his sleep and his efforts were met with a sharp pain

Take it easy lieutenant one of your lungs was punctured and you need you're going to need your strength.

Whats the mission?

Some rogue SDF armsmen stormed the astroid research facility the crystals were stored on and we're going to take it back.

Thats the company commander and yes he is holding it side ways.

The chimeras with the sloped rear armor are my command chimeras

All you have to do is glue the door flush with slope of the treads running down the back
