Sorry if this is in the wrong section

Over the last few months I have been working on rules and balance for a new squad based game that can be played as an RPG or platoon based game as well. It has a unique style of play that isn't like napoleonics in space that we all know and secretly dispise.
Before I ramble on, hear is the point of this thread.

I dont want the game to be overly complicated to the point where no one can play without a giant stack of papers for your model stats, and I want to retain the function that will allow this game to be unique, which is to allow a fully customizable force at the platoon level. I have a few ideas, and would enjoy feedback on which of these should be followed.

Special rule modifiers are not named yet, just percentages to add on to the cost of your model for a special rule. Should I give them names for ease of recognition?
I already have a list of probably common weapons/gears, with point costs added in. Should I make them slightly less expensive point wise so that people will be more likely to use weapons that everyone knows about?
Finally, should I put a set amount of restrictions on the amount of unique stats allowed in this game? Here are my basic ideas so far
HQ unit-no restrictions except max stats
Close support platoons-only a difference of 3 stats or 2 weapons for every 50 points. No other restrictions besides max stats
Combat platoons- Max of 2 different stats per platoon, not including adding a command officer. No other restrictions besides max stats.
Scouting platoons- no other restrictions besides max stats
Support options-no restrictions besides min and max stats.

So hopefully you will see this on dakka dakka as a beta project in another 2 or 3 months. The thread will be mostly a feedback thread, and be focused on improving the game after beta, after that the rules will cost below 10 dollars, and I will use 3d printed models to make molds for the game. The beta rules will still be available still, and creating your own models will be encouraged, mostly due to the fact that I will never get rid of the customization aspect of the game.

Thanks for any feedback, hopefully i will be able to post it after spring break, but if not, before july. Remember, be constructive in your critisism.
