What was the reason for making this a US only kickstarter? Seems like you are missing out on quite a bit of the market that way. The project actually seems very interesting (though the complete absence of pretty pictures leaves for a dull looking main page), naval battles always interested me a lot!

Anyway, good luck with the project!

This is from the Sailpower 2.0 KS page.

"Your project says US only - will you ship to international destinations?"

Answer: Because this was out first KickStarter campaign, it was decided to keep it simple and only ship within the US. That way, we could control out shipping costs, and factor them into our pledge levels.

After launching the campaign, we quickly discovered that we had fans and backers outside the US. So, if an international backer would like to pledge, we will ship to them as long as they pay for shipping. Message us with your address, and we will let you know the cost.

Oh hey. This Kickstarter is definitely not for me, but it's awesome that it exists. This is what makes Kickstarter great: rather niche projects made by a couple of passionate folks.

Awesome looking game, I would love to see some ships with a few sails...right now they look a little bare...any chance of anything as big as a third rate ship of the line or bigger?

If you get a chance to look at the FAQ, you will notice that Brian gives the very good and historical reasons why sails are not modeled on the ships, of course nothing is stopping anyone from modelling them up.

There is also a Facebook page that shows several WIPs and the official website http://www.sailpowergame.com that gives an overview as well as a link to the online shop that has current products available.

The third-rates are custom pieces and historically were not as involved in action as Hollywood would have you think. Usually the largest of most active ships were the frigates large enough to fight and trim enough to sail, then you have the brigantines and schooners. Third-rates were usually kept close to home as they could become unwieldy at sea and could easily be out-sailed by smaller vessels.

But I digress, the rulebook has an excellent history section that sheds light on and breaks through many misconceptions that people have about the "Golden Age of Sail."

I highly recommend it, but then again I have a bias.

The first stretch goal has been unlocked! Ensigns, pennants, flags at $6,000 and $7,000 will bring us a new ship.

The first has been met, the second is a bit further off.

Seems at this point stretch goals are mostly going to involve optional things to pay more for. Since most of those are going to be available after the campaign the incentive to buy them as part of the campaign diminishes in my opinion. I'm not saying I need/expect a lot of 'free' stuff, but with a $200 admiral pledge I'm already shelling out a lot for a game I *hope* I will like. Adding more to my pledge for stuff I can get later isn't too attractive. Heck, the 'limited edition' pinance only comes with one low level pledge, otherwise it is only available as an add on. That should have been worked into some of the higher pledge levels.

We'll see.

There will be a survey at the end of the kickstarter in order for you to manage your pledge and get the items you want.

I'm sure that if you let your concerns be known on the KS page under the comments section either Brian or Ed can address those.

I don't think you need to rely on hope, I'm confident that you will like the game!

I have posted a question on the kickstarter page. Haven't gotten a reply from them in three days. Not sure of the point in raising further questions on that forum if they don't get answered.

Your mention of the after project survey really doesn't address the issue either to be honest. I know I can add more to my $200 pledge and assume they will have a survey or other mechanism to figure out what the extra is for, that only makes sense. What does not make sense, for ME, is to add to that $200 when I can get everything later. And again, a 'limited edition' ship available at a low pledge or as an add on is cool, but working it into the higher pledges would have made more sense in my opinion.

Judging by the steep slope of the Kicktraq trend line and the slow (or negative) activity the last couple of days, I may not be the only one who thinks the project could be better.

Try their Facebook page, usually they post up pretty quick there.

And I definately see your point, it is a good question.

I don't know the answer.

Salipower has been very popular at conventions such as Origins and Gen Con for quite a few years now (Gen Con more recently). When I used to own a game store in Columbus the crew used to put on demos from time to time and everyone involved had a blast.

Captain Ed here (project manager for the Sailpower 2.0 KickStarter project).

Initially, we had limited shipping to the US only to keep it simple, and to control our shipping costs. International shipping can get expensive fast.

After the launched the project, we have had many great international backers contact us, and so we have decided to allow international shipping (see the FAQ on the project page for details).

We typically don't play with sails for a few reasons:
1. Time: we have too many ships to make realistic sails for all of them.
2. Battle damage: we like to make the mast removable so the ship can have them shot off!
3. Storage space: Fully rigged ships would be hard to store
4. Silliness factor: Ships in combat usually carried less then full sail, but the sails often changed drastically as the ship sailed. Any set of sails we put on would be wrong most of the time. We have put sail sets on a few of the ships to show players what they look like. You can of course put sails on your ships when you play Sailpower!

Actually, we are a bit of a victim of our own success. This is our first kickStarter project, and we underestimated what was going to happen. We had set a 30+ day project, and had expected to need most of that to reach our (rather modest) goal. Instead, we hit our goal in just about 4 days. We also had expected to have some time to set some stretch goals. Instead, we have already hit one goal, and are closing in on the second.

I'm going to be adding some additional stretch goals soon, including some more free stuff for our backers. Plus, we will be offering a deal so that our higher-level backers can get 1, 2, or more of the special Pinance.

Sorry, I must have missed you comment on the project page.

To answer your question, not all of the kits will be available after the project, and probably not at the price you are getting them in the KickStarter project. Plus, by adding on a ship to your backer level, you'll be able to save a bit on shipping compared to buying the kits separately.

We will be announcing additional stretch goal rewards (not just add-ons) soon.

-Captain Ed
