Planning on order the rules and printing out some paper miniatures to start out with.

Any tips out there?

Plan on doing Romans and Britons.

I've head somewhere on youtube, I believe, that the core rule book does not include point costs, but in one (or some?) of the rule books. Any ideas which?

Just want to start out with a small battle and see how it goes.

I've heard great things about it. Former game club member praised it, wish I had played while he was still around.

The book in the middle is the main rulebook, which doesn't include army lists, although does have an army building section towards the back, it wouldn't be hard to use this to give the game a test run. The two books on either side contain single or double page army lists for dozens of factions each, you just need to pick which one depending on the era you want to play in (Romans and Britons would be the one on the left).

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

I've had a lot of fun with HC. You can easily setup a demo game of Romans vs Gauls (Britons) using the main rule book. Aim for 3 divisions of 4 units each as a good starter size army.

12 units of Roman Legionnaires vs 12 units of Gaulish warbands will probably favor the Romans. After a game or two to figure out the rules, you can try tweaking the lists for a more even fight.
