So this is my first battle report ever. In fact I this is maybe my 20th game ever as well. I am a new player who was enthralled with this hobby when I watch a few friends play a game. I got a few games in and got a decent handle on the rule, and decided I wanted to take a step into competitive play. So the friend who got me started in 40K also have a gaming team, Team Awesome. I decide to work with them to get prepped for golden throne. As well as I decided to build them a website. There is a more complete battle report there as well. I didn't want to have to redo so I will give a short form here, full report is here http://awesomewargaming.com/2013/04/02/battle-report-tyranids-vs-necrons-1500-points/

So everyone enjoy my first of many battle reports with my tyranids. Feel free to comment below, both my opponents (who is also a member of Team Awesome) and I are open to critiques and constructive comments about our play style.

Also being my first battle report please forgive picture quality.

Tyranid Strategy

--Like most tyranid players I wanted to spawn a fair amount of gaunts. I wanted to use them as screens to get my swarmlord, and Tervigons down field in order to drop any heavies/vehicles he may be running. While using the Flyrant and Doom to threatened from the flanks and expose weaknesses in the opposing army. The Zoanthropes were taken not as armor hunters but actually a support unit, the hive guard was the Armor hunter.

Necron List 1500 Points

HQ

Destroyer Lord - Mss, Res Orb, Semp Weave

Troops

Immortals - 10 man squad Tesla Carbines

Immortals - 10 man squad Tesla Carbines

Warriors - 10 man squad with a dedicated Ghost Ark Transport

5 warriors in a Night Scythe

5 Warriors in a Night Scythe

Fast

10 Scarab Swarms

Heavy

3 Canoptek Spiders

Annialation Barge

Necrons Strategy -

My opponent Andrew wanted to shoot me down with his heavy fliers, and his devastating firepower. Very effective, and straight forward. I wasn't sure how I would deal with the fliers at all.

Mission type: Big guns never tire (making his heavies worth a kill point, and making them scoring works for both of us)

Deployment: Dawn of War

Night Fighting: Yes

Deployment :

Necron Side: Blank bases are Spiders. He deployed on three objective. His Spiders, and both his immortal squads.

Deployment:

Tyranids: I deployed on two objectives with one gaunt squad, and one Tervigon. Blank bases are Zoanthropes

Necrons Turn 1:

He won first turn and I failed to Seize so he went first. He just marched everything forward their 6 inches. Trying to get the best LOS he could with each shot.

His immortals on the right side of the board fire into the Flyrant and all miss.

Anialation Barge, and the ten Warriors it holds, and the Ghost Ark fires into my Hive Guard. Inflicting a total of 8 wounds I manage to save 5 of them and loose a Hive Guard with one wound on the other.(I was scared I would loose both, didn't realize how mean the Ghost Ark was)

Immortals move into ruins and fires into my 20 man gaunt squad with 7 wounds, and 5 saves(take that!)

Tyranids Turn 1:

My two tervigons poop out. With one creating 7 and the other making 8. =(

I move one set of gaunts onto the objective held by the Tervigon, the other gaunts that spawned just push forward.

Activate all my psychic powers activate - Iron Arm on swarmloard, flyrant, and one Tervigon. Telekenisis dome on 20 man gaunt sqaud.( I am now ready to advance!)

Everything moves up 6 inches except my 12 man squad on the objective, and the 8 man squad on the other one, and my one hive gaurd. Flyrant lands on the impassible terrian in soaring mode

In shooting phase 20 man everything runs up except flyrant. (think this was a mistake. I though Tervigon only has a 12 inch range not 18, and gants should have lit up immortals or the swarm guys)

Flyrant rains death down on the small squad of immortals. deals 4 wounds and kills 3. Then 1 Resurrects. (I see where the name comes from)

Hive Gaurd shoots at Annialator Barge and whifs it.

Zoanthrope throws out a Obious Mechanum and hits the Ghost Ark with haywire shot taking a hull point.
