Hello all, a long time lurker here who is looking to start his first ever log to record his attempted painting exploits. Even if I get no readers, this should at least be a good way of tracking my progress and keeping me (somewhat) focused.

So the focus of my blog is going to be (at least initially) Tohaa from Infinity and Tau.

I started looking at the Infinity minis as a break from GW stuff. I got attracted by the scale of the sculpts as well as the less grimdark sci-fi aesthetic. Not a skull in sight! I decided to try and pick a force to buy some models from and saw they had just released a new alien faction called Tohaa. These guys appealed to me straight away, with mix of hoods, visors and lizard-like, almost Drell-esque features. So i decided to buy a model to have a look at the quality of the sculpts first hand.

I bought this guy, a Gao-Rael Sniper and have recently put him together:

I am looking forward to putting a lick of paint on him over the next couple of weeks although he is somewhat intimidating as I have never painted a model with such fine detail before. It's going to either end up looking great or a mess, I have no idea which yet.

Secondly, we also have some Tau. I got into them, like many did, after the Dark Crusade expansion to Dawn of War was released and started buying a few models. I never really collected a full force however, but with their recent re-release I have decided I will get a cohesive and uniformly painted force together.

I have settled on a paint scheme and have knocked up a test mini which is as follows:

But I am not happy with the base, so will be doing something different when I actually paint up my first squad.

Anyway, that's it for my first post, a prelude to the actual P&M to follow if you will. Hopefully in the next update I will have the base coats on both the Gao-rael and a Fire Warrior unit. I do have a Riptide on order, but like a lot of people I have been effected by the supply chain issues. So despite ordering my codex and Riptide from Wayland games on 31 March, they are yet to go beyond "Processing." Unimpressed :( But I do have a Forgeworld Suit and metal Shadowsun needing paint so there is plenty to do!

*slaps you*
So why do you think you wouldn't be able to do tyranids justice? Your little Tau looks awesome, including his base. Mossy stone blocks are always great (and hard to do). You might want to take a little more time to paint the highlights, but that'll be just a matter of, well, time. And maybe routine. So... where's the other stuff you promised?
