Inspired by the Imperial Vox Cast podcast I decided to hold my own 40k Draft at my flgs. I tried following as many of the rules I could glean from the podcast as well as work out my own. The following slots HAD to be filled: 1 HQ, 1 Elite, 2 Troops, 1 Fast, 1 Heavy, 1 Dedicated Transport, and 1 Flex (this could be used for fortifcations, or an additional slot, except HQ's, as well could be used for any squads that don't use a FOC slot, such as command squads and royal courts).
We ended up with 7 people since a lot of people were hesistent about the idea. As we started the draft in the open of our game store it soon attracted a lot of people that want to be included in future drafts.

Some of the rules I put in place; no IG blob squad, powers affect your army regardless of what the unit is, had to build a 1500pt army.

So here are the results of the draft.

Fascinating idea! I'm guessing there's no repeats in units? And frankly Eldrad was a STEAL in round 4!

Yep, no repeats, once a unit was drafted that was it. But like the Land Raiders there are a million varients in many codaices.

This is intriguing. Were there other rules? Could you draft -anything- and proxy, or only models you owned, or only models available at the shop? Was there a point limit?

Additional Rules:

1 flyer limit

1750 point limit

you could proxy anything as long as the base size matched, and as long as all the models of a squad were of the same type (eg. A squad of boys could count as a squad of marines, but you could have a mix of boys and firewarriors as a squad of marines)

Powers that affected certain elements of an army (things that effect just eldar, or just orks) could effect any unit you field

You HAD to field everything you took. Even if you took just the min, it had to represented.

You could only take one unit of the options you picked (You'll notice that one person only has 1 scoring troop, while another used his flex to get another troop, while another took the SM captain, so he could turn his bikes scoring) I figured this would help make people think about missions and such.

So did you just get max unit size and upgrades? How'd that work?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Well it wasn't just max units and upgrades. You had to fit it into a 1750pt list.

Like in my list I was able to max out my troops, but there was no chance I was gonna be able to max out a squad of paladins, or the TWC.

Depending on what you took it would be easier or harder to make everything fit.
