I'm just starting to make my background for my new Red corsairs.

The warband will be lead by a sorceror of Tzeentch.

The question is from where did he originate?

A epistolary from the Astral Claws?

A renegade that defects to the corsairs? If so who, which chapter did they come from, or one of my own making, what promted them to go renegade, and how did they rise in favor of Huron Blackheart.

The first option is simpler but much less in depth.

Any suggestions?

Red Corsairs are a good warband to pick from, there's so much diversity in their background, and so many little sub-factions that make up the whole.

Maybe he's a veteran? Serving with Huron from the start? Or maybe he was picked up during a later conflict, a renegade splinter of a loyalist faction, but that's me relaying your own ideas back to you.

You could also drop a little extra into the mix...Maybe he was disgraced as part of another warband? and Lord Huron has seen fit to give him a second chance.

Maybe he's a free agent of Tzeench, and entered a pact with Huron? Sorcerors are fond of their pacts.

I always preferred the idea of Chaos Lords having a mutual goal or a shared interest that brings them to work together, rather than one trusting the other.

There's also a possibility that your Sorceror has already betrayed Huron, and taken his own splinter of the Red Corsairs in defiance of the Blackheart's powers...

Ultimately, it's not for me to say, but uneasy alliances make for a much more interesting plot than that of a master and pupil when it comes to Chaos

So basicly I need to decide:-

Is he
A) an original Astral claw
B) A renegade SM
C) A Traitor Legion marine

I'm edging towards B)

But then that leaves
What Chapter, why, I do like the uneasy alliance idea though.

Did have a rough concept of a Marines Errant librarian who defected during the fall of Villamus, service in exchange for his life.

But then is that too far fetched when the enemy is at the gates slaughtering your 'home'

since you're the writer why not try and figure it out? Sit in a hole for a week if that's what it takes.
But why not write a few chapters about an idea you have then revise, revise, revise, and revise some more until you hit the spot? Then revise somemore until you're proud of what you came up with?

Because sometimes it helps to ask people who have a different point of view or a more objective viewpoint on your own work.

Easy.... I aim for 'ralism' with a lack anything OTT. I probably wont use all ideas, but its more of a test run, anything silly gets edited out at the first hurdle.

make him a marines errant librarian who was the last one defending a prized relic of the chapter, huron pities him and allows him into his service, then your guy is sent out on missions by huron to maybe recruit some new red corsairs, but your guy sees it in his best interest to maybe go it alone with his 7 marines

just my opinion though.
