To all guys here who have served in the armed forces, what is it like to play fps's?

Fun?

Are you asking about realism? Not really sure what you mean.

not exactly sure what you mean mate, but i'll have a go...

I'd imagine that it's about the same as anyone else playing it... I will on occasion catching my self doing the same with games as I do military movies: basically, I'll see the M-4 or M-16 in the game, see the stats, or shoot the pixelated d-bag in front of me with it, and I'll go "it's not supposed to be able to do that!" or, "what a POS, the M-4 is so much better than this game makes it!"

ultimately i find i just have to shut down the brain and enjoy a few hours of pew pew time, waste a crap ton more ammo than I can in real life (who'da thunk... bullets actually do cost money!) and move on to the next game

Sorry, probably should have put that into context. I mean, i have no idea what you guys go through, but is it weird, or messed up, playing a game based around warfare? Do you think its wrong that kids like me make a game of it?

I personally don't.

I'm what some would refer to as an REMF'er though, so I'm not going to say my opinion on the topic is as worthy as a Spec Ops operative.

HAH! I'm like that all the time as well. I think it annoys my friends.

The military uses stuff like this to train. Plenty of troopers play these games in their spare time.

It IS a game. To get upset that kids/civilians use it as a game would be silly in my mind. Heck, I enjoy tactical wargames (though not FPS) on the computer and on the table top in part because they ARE games in which my 'real' experience has relevancy.

Well, first it's the night terrors.

Then come the meat sweats.

Finally, the fetal position with a stress ball.
