Great Not-So-White North

Or rather, the Not-So-Cold-North! (Mild winters these last five years, this is nuts!)

Just another Canadian 40k player who has lurked for far too long (made an account and forgot all about it >.< )

I 'play' at least half of the 40k armies, although my technical main is IG. Nonetheless I've been running Marines and only Marines for the last few months, due to the fact that two of my three 40k buddies do not play multiple armies, and Eldar + Necron does nasty things to my poor IG's tanks.

Unfortunately, the Eldar player discovered Eldrad, which has invalidated my psyker lists entirely. (The exception are team game lists that are designed around assassinating him as fast as possible, and lists where I don't really have a choice or don't care if I'm stuck against Eldar that game.)

Currently (as in, literally right now) I'm churning out Vanilla Marines lists, although I've played all of the Marine factions save for Dark Angels at least once, if you count that one Blood Angels game where I created an Eldrad assassination list dependant on Deep Strike... that due to my friends arriving late never actually got to do anything! (Mostly because we play 1.5k each with 4 players, so turns take a long time.)

Also, I'm planning on playing around with two fan Marine factions from 1D4Chan: the Obsinate Marines (Played as Vanilla with the additional four rules) and the Emperor's Nightmares (an entire codex that is based on the Blood Angels and looks to be very well tested out if not quite finished. They seem to have Eldar-levels of complexity, however. But hey, sleeping dreadnoughts! Also introduces rules on their dedicated snipers that allow them to go to ground and still fire, which immediately hit me as a no-brainer for such sniper teams- what kind of sniper stands up and shoots?! (Granted this would utterly invalidate the point of camo cloaks, which serve to grant the high cover save, but its just the no-brainer fluff that makes this rule more appealing than a camo cloak.)

What else to say...

Oh, that I absolutely hate Chaos and their Veterans of the Long War! And Thousand Sons, too. (Honestly, their profile is something that the Damned Legion squads fluff points at. It says their bolters absolutely rip CSM up, yet they're just any old bolters. :/ There is much sad.)

But above all that is the horror of the thought of 1v3 Marines vs Tau, Necrons and Eldar. (Long, mid and short ranged armies that, at least for our meta, invalidate vehicles (tank, necrons) psykers (eldar) and Marines in general (dark reapers, staffs of light, and from what I've seen my friend play, much of Tau, even in 5th.)

Anywho, I suppose all that's left is to say that my lists are for sure not competitive, at least not for solo. They're usually made for the typical 2v2 team games we play, and in almost all cases sacrifice one particular thing for absurd redundancy in another. My teammate can fill in for the missing bit, while I cover the other bits. (Which also frees me up from having to worry about handling a certain threat type, say, a vehicle, because the one or two AT weapons I even have might not even be there for that purpose.)

Also, from the lists I've seen in general, there's usually big gaps regardless. I often take nothing but infantry, and usually footslog Guard and Marines- this is due to my Necron friend almost always being against me. Three games of loosing all of my tanks by turn two has taught me to just not bring that target type to feed the 'Cronz if I can help it. The lists with vehicles are usually for those times I'm not stuck up against Necrons, or otherwise it's a list that I made ignoring the Necrons and will have to rely on faith (and my friend's horrifically unlucky die) to work.

Also I hate Necrons because they make my Rune Priests cry when the planet eats them and they get back up when I finally have a game where Eldrad isn't causing Perils left and right!

But enough 'a dat. Not sure what else to plot down, so I'll end it here. 'Weidersehen!

But it's always wonderful when you somehow take a C'tan Shard down with massed bolter fire! (More than makes up for the trouble it is to take down huge squads of Warriors)
