I was reading the First Heretic last night, and had just got to where the warp spawn is showing the past to the serrated sons. When it struck me. The Emperor is not their father at all, or should I say, not the only one. But this is not the questions I put forth to you now. The question is, if Horus and the serrated sons had not been taken back in time, would have the Primarchs ever have been touched by the warp and tainted? Or was it a self fore-filling future? Would their arcane beginnings left a ghost of a touch on their souls, since they were born from five fathers and not one? Any answers to my questions would be most welcome.

Come into my web, said the spider to the fly.
Come rest your wings, and let us talk eye to eye.
For I am a spider, and you are the fly. Now that you are here, let us sit, and say hi.
But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.
For I am the spider, and you are the fly. How else could it have gone, between one such as you, and one such as I.

You have to ask yourself as well, were they really there? Chaos a lot of the time is just smoke and mirrors and all that comes out of the mouth of Daemons is usually lies and half truths.
Personally I think that the whole dealio about showing them the past was just a push to get them on board rather than anything that would actually effect the timeline.

Stated by Grey Templar:The Ward of the Codices
"It began, with the writing of the Great Codices,
2 were given to the Eldar. Immortal, Capricious, and most farsighted of all,
2 also to Chaos. Traitorous, Deceitful, Servants of the Dark Gods,
3 to the Xenos races. T'au, Orks, and Necrons. the Young, the Beast, and the Spiteful,
7 to the race of men. Servents of the God Emperor, the Inheritors of the Galaxy.
But they were all of them, decieved. for another Codex was written…
In the Land of Ward'or, in the Fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Matthew wrote in secret, a Master Codex, to rule all the others. One by one, all the armies of the other Codices fell to the power of the Codex, and from this Darkness, none could see hope.
But there were some, who resisted. a Last Alliance of Men and Xenos took up arms against the forces of Ward'or and on the Slopes of Mount Doom they fought for the freedom of 40k." |

Very true Pilau Rice, I guess the only two who could say if Horus was really there would be Valdor and the Emperor. Both frustratingly silent on the subject..so far.

And then, if the Emperor recognised Horus, maybe not his older self but his warp signature or something, would he not have thought that something down the ages involving Horus might go awry? It's a bit of a chin scratcher isn't it, the future version of your son amidst a big swirly thing that is apparently abducting your test tube babies.
It's a bit odd.

Liked the way you ended your post. And yes it's a bit odd that he never mentions it to Horus.
There is so many questions that the moment in the time line throws up, and is more like a head grater at times. I mean, we know something happened that cast them far and wide. But since Chaos is not exactly straight talking, or down right liars. I would just like for once that the loyalists have a take on the matter(Emperor I'm looking at you).

On the same subject
The scattering happens when the Serrated Sun destroy the Geller Field generators, but their in what I can only think is a vision or spiritual sense because of Chaos, the above mentioned smoke and mirrors.
SO im wondering what actually destroyed the generators? Was it the Serrated Sun taken back in time somehow? Or were the generators destroyed by the Chaos gods in the past, and the destroying of the generators by the Serrated Sun in their vision thing with Ingethel was a symbolic gesture, pushing them over the edge to believe in Chaos?
Sorry if I straight missed an obvious answer in the novel, but its been bugging the gak out of me!

I think it's as you say ConsecratedIron, it was all smoke and mirrors and the deed was symbolic.
