Wondering if this would be agood starting point for drop guard.Done some reasearch myself but advice as ever is needed.
Doctrines: Drop Troops, speacial weapon squads, veterans, Iron Discipline, light troops.
HQ:
junior command squad-85pts total -4x plasma guns -Iron Discipline
Speacial Weapons squad A-75pts total -2x meltaguns -1x demo charge
speacial weapons squad B-65pts total -2x flamers -1x demo charge
Elites:
5 veterans-75pts total -3x plasma guns
5 veterans-75pts total -3x plasma guns
5 veterans-75pts total -3x plasma guns
Troops:
Junior platton command 1-85pts total -4x plasma guns -Iron Discipline
Squad A-95pts total -1x lascannon -1x plasma gun
Squad B-95pts total -1x lascannon -1x plasma gun
Junior platton command 2-85pts total -4x plasma guns -Iron Discipline
Squad C-95pts total -1x lascannon -1x plasma gun
Squad D-95pts total -1x lascannon -1x plasma gun
Total= 996pts
Notes:
-The 3 junior command squads I thought would be better with suicide role in drop guard then cheap leadership.
-Are speacial weapon squads worth it?Also flamers seem a bit dodgy on a deep striking unit with scatter and all.
-I would inflirtrate my troops occasionally but then the command squad cant deep strike which is a bit of a problem. If they all deep strike im not sure as a non guard player how the line squads will do.
-I am aware that all the suicide troops in this list make a massacre rather hard but oh well, I really like the idea.
-Do I have enough anti horde? The list is geared towards meq but seems to have quite a bit to desire when coming to anti horde, Im not sure what to do with drop troops regarding this.Taking flamers as speacial weapons seems stupid and taking heavy bolters in the line squads seems risky and not all that effective with drop troops anyway.
Without tanks where do I get that anti horde goodness? The demo charges are hardly reliable or the flamer squad.Suppose plasma ganging on one squad might do it but meh, seems ineffective.
-If a tank really needs to be killed I figure dropping plasma for rear shots if possible might be effective.
Any help well appreciated.Go easy..

Actually it is a pretty good list. Personally I would drop the lascannons and the ID off of the squads. Drop ID all togher and take close order drill as your guys are going to be base to base. Also drop light infantry. Get in a few more melta guns for tank busting. Between the meltas, and all of your plasma you should be good to go. You might consider a couple of reminant squads with a flamer in them from the points you saved dropping ID and the lascannons.

Revised list: Thanks for input.
Doctrines: close order drill, Drop troops, veterans, speacial weapon squads,
Hq:
Junior Command Squad-81pts total -4x plasma Guns -Junior Officer with a Bolter
Speacial Weapon squad A-75pts total -2x melta Guns -1x Demo charge
Speacial Weapon Squad B-60pts toal -1x Melta Gun -1x Demo Charge.
Elites:
Veterans-75pts total -3x Plasma Guns
Veterans-75pts total -3x Plasma Guns
Veterans-75pts total -3x Plasma Guns
Troops:
Junion Platton Command Squad 1-80pts total -4x Plasma Guns
Squad A-80pts total -1x Heavy Bolter -1x Plasma Gun
Squad B-80pts Total -1x Heavy Bolter -1x Plasma Gun
Remnant Squad 1-40pts total -5x men -1x Melta Gun
Junior Platton Command Squad 2-80pts total -4x plasma Guns
Squad C-80pts total -1x heavy Bolter -1x Plasma Gun
Squad D-80pts total -1x heavy Bolter -1x plasma Gun
Remnant Squad 2-40pts total -5x men -1x melta Gun
Total= 999 pts
Notes:
-Imo this list is better then the old one, I wanted to keep some heavy weapons on my line squads so the heavy bolter seem about right, also helps vs non meqs.
-Anti Tank in practice increased since the lascannons if deep striked would take a turn to fire, the extra melta guns allow for a alpha strike of some sort taking out those tanks when its importent and not a turn later.
-Man power increased slightly.Always helpful.
-Ld is worse off, but then those command squads arent expected to live so I suppose on the bright side no one will be getting 15 free pts.
So what do yous think of updated list?

I havent played Guard myself for ages, but I do play against them on a regular basis - and your list looks very good compared to many of the lists I have faced. I dont know about the heavy bolters though, personally I would use lascannons instead, but I could be wrong.
Solid list.

I would drop the bolter off of the office, and swap the two meltas off of the reminants with flamers. Then I would add a melta to the special weapon squad with only one melta. Single melta's in a squad are normally not a good idea. However flamers are fine. No roll to hit, just have to get lucky with the scatter die.

Why do your flamers need to roll a scatter die?

Foil, I know from reading around the forums that you play drop guard (at least, that's what my impression was). So, what's the trick to using a list like this (or whatever your list happens to look like)? Are there any tactical tips that Sith (or I) should know before either of us actually try and field this type army?
