Warsaw

Right,

So I'm attending a 4 scenario league for the "Beginners" in LGS 12 participants, I had a loss in my first game against Belial Termies :( no report since I took pictures only from half of the game
Here is report of my 2nd game

Scenario:
opponent with less points from the first game starts (not me )
Vanguard strike
Primary Objective: Annihilation 1 VP for every unit
Secondary: Slay the Warlord, LineBreaker, First Blood,
Special rules: Nemesis - additional VP for killing unit that achieved First Blood; Night Fight, Reserves, Only one Hero - if both armies have the same special character both are not participating but convey any special rules to the armies
nothing important regarding Warlord Traits
---------------------------------------------------

Pre-game thoughts

Spoiler:

here is my thoughts, I welcome constructive criticism
1. Deployment option is helping me a lot since it allows me to get as far as possible from average Necrons shooting range
2. I out-shoot him strongly in terms of range at least with having 8 Dark Reapers 4 Quad Gun and 2 Wraithlord 48" shots so if he doesn't come it will get boring
3. I have no tools to get the 3 Annihilation Barges and a command Barge with AV 13... only 2 options viable, 1 lance from WL and rear shoot with deep striking Warp Spiders... Suicide for expensive unit. I decided I will cast Guide on Wraithlord for a couple of shots and try to pen/destroy some of those barges
4. most games that I loose are due to poor deployment, I tried to really think it through prior the game, you will see it soon since I actually utilized it I also planned to Fortune/guide WW
5. In the end it will come to 2 things; 1 if there is lot's of terrain and he will come to me in cover I loose big time, and 2 - how strong will those Annihilation Barges hit me
6. My priority would be to shoot Wraiths first with my whole army apart from WL who would go for the Barges, then I would shoot anything that would threaten to be in assault range

Deployment

Spoiler:

Board was set by the Shop Manager. I lost roll for the side choosing side... damn, one would be very uncomfortable. However my opponent chose that one! nice . then he thought that Vanguard strike deployment goes the other way that is in the book. Frankly speaking I'm not 100% sure but I told him its supposed always be from your top left corner to the bottom right ... I hope I didn't cheat him...

here is board after deployment

in his deployment there is this hill/shrine with skulls... I didn't want to have it in my zone since it's kind of tall and obscure view a lot!. later in the game it helped me a lot, you will see what I mean. most other board sceneries had little impact on the game

my deployment

I did some calculation back at home. If I deploy around 10" from my corner he wouldnt be able to shoot me in his 1st turn.... I wonder if it will happen
WW on the right
Guardians with Eldrad who runs Quad Gun
WraithLord on the left from Eldrad
on my left flank Dark Reapers - metal ones; and Pathfinders violet/grey minis
I reinforced parts of my ADL with those short parts because in my previous games it was sometimes claimed that due to lower parts of the ADL my WW and WL don't get cover...

Necron deployment

Destroyer lord on the left, it/he joined one of the Wraith units - mini wraithstar?
then anhihilation barge (back one) and Command Barge with the Warlord Overlord
some scarabs and small Immortal unit on the left of the hill as well as second Wraith unit
on the right of the hill another two Barges and remaining Infantry, each with Cryptek

Necron Turn 1

Spoiler:

I tried to seize but I failed... I was eager to get first Lance shot at the Bargers but it was wrong decision, I'm happy I didnt size since he got no shot in 1st turn! here is his movement

he moved everything forward, tried to hid behind the hill in on the route towards my line, flat-out moves prepared him for the 2nd turn shooting

Eldar Turn 1

Spoiler:

As I said in the pre-game analysis I decided I needed hits with my only Lance so Eldrad was casting Guide on WL and WW, WW got Fortuned as well! rerollable 4+ means I would pass 3 out of 4 cover saves nice

view before shooting; you can see Destroyer Lord on the left in front of the Wraith unit close to the Barge; another unit is just visible on the right of the hill in the middle

Shooting
WL at Barge, hit without reroll but 2 on a AP... nothing, crap :(

then my WW and Quad Gun with SL took out unit of Wraiths on the right (ones without Destroyer Lord) nice! First Blood to the WW that became Nemesis....

no Wraiths close to the Scarabs anymore!

and my beloved unit, Pathfinders got fortunate 4 Precision Shots at the Destroyer Lord and fifth rending wound... 2 Precision Shots wounded for 3 wounds total and he got wiped out... I'm not sure why he didn't Look Out Sired it on the Wraiths in the unit though... Maybe he thought he couldn't... I'm not sure if he could... well I'm not happy with myself, I should have told him to check it out, we played in really friendly fashion enabling forgotten moves and such, no hard-core waccy game :(

Dark Reapers killed another Wraith from the remaining unit and Tempest scored 1 wound on them as well

no Destroyer Lord... in second turn my opponent realizes he could have reanimated him... :(

Overall excellent 1st turn for the Eldar 3 VP's for HQ, Wraiths and First Blood

Necrons Turn 2

Spoiler:

movement
overview

closeups

he moves aggressively with the Command Barge, moves everything to get in range, exposes scarabs, is not running with Infantry in order to use Crypteks 36" AP1 shot

shooting.. I know it's going to hurt, I'm scarred shortless ... and he has this weapon that can hit units that are within 6 inches from the already hit one... a minus to my packed deployment, I'm not sure what kind of dakka I can enjoy from 3 Barges with Command one ...let's see

I don't believe it!, he put his right Barges (I always tell from my perspective) at WW and destroyed only 1, his left Barge and Command Barge take down 2 Dark Reapers (I use them always and I always Fortune them behind ADL, I paid for Guiding WL) they passed Ld!

After 2nd turn Necrons has no VPs..

Eldar turn 2

Spoiler:

unfortunately both EJB and Warp Spiders come from Reserves

Eldar again Guides WL and WW, Fortunes WW; correction: Eldrad rolled couple of 1's and failed 3+ Ghost Helm thus helped opponent by showing some Dark Eldar soul part with self scaring/wounding/mutilating - pick one

movement

Here is I think my could be game winning move (I'm maybe incorrect but that's how I fell due to my Warp Spiders Love! )
At pre-game analysis I decided I would deepstrike Warp Spiders on the butt of the Barges and love them from behind if there was a place to hide with the Warp Jump... I seriously thought about it for like 5 minutes... finally I decided that I can do more good behind enemy lines. My most mature move in the game it occured! take a look!

here is where I placed them and they didn't scatter!! If they scattered I would have to rethink my shooting

so there was like 11" from closest Warp Spiders to the Annihilation Barge... Tempting Black Chicka with round curves... , I could have put last 3 WS (ups there is no short Warp Spiders form.... ) in second circle either towards Barge or Immortals. But I was also in range of the small Immortal unit with everybody and with the Barge only like with 7, and whats more important if I wiped them out I could Jump towards that hill, it was high enough to block LoS from the to big Infantry units on the other side!... I decided for the relatively easy VP

EJB got behind those ruins - picture is after the Assault Jump but their placement was there in order to shoot scarabs and maybe get the nice rear view of another two Black Chicas behind the Ruins...

after first shots opponent allowed me to move my WW slightly, thx!

shooting

WL fluffed Guided shots again! :( so sad - not sure what can Command Barge do in CC...

but my Elites meaning Pathfinders and Dark Reapers (I sincerely think Pathfinders are elites take down remaining Wraiths

Eldar Jet Bikes with WW take down Scarabs

and my Warp Spiders with 22 S6 shooting...

take down whole Immortal unit with Cryptek... which then gets up.... :(,
my Warp Jump gave me only 3" leaving me exposed! :( some of the Warriors and Immortals from the other side of the hill can see me!

I think I shot Quad Gun towards Warriors killing one

to summarize I already have VPs from First Blood, HQ, both Wraiths and Scarabs =5

Necron Turn 3

Spoiler:

Well, I had lucky first couple of turns, but with Command Barge closing and Warp Spiders in the middle of the plain...

Since game got quicker I sometimes captured pictures after shooting... apologize for that, I hope it will be still easy to follow

movement,

lone Cryptek moves away from Spiders, one Barge moves towards them as well, Warriors and Immortals moves forward

someone has Arachnophobia!

Annihilation Barge close to the Command one shows it's side (sad it's not a rear ) to my ADL and shoots Spiders. Also a total of 7 Warriors/Immortals after movement can target them. 4 die (they will pass Ld test)

scary part, Command Barge shoots Pathfinders and then use it's special movement attack and finally assaults them. when dust settles 3 remaining runs away

remaining couple of Barges and Crypteks shoot at WW wiping them off for 2 VPs (unit + Nemesis), explosion kills one Guardian

Eldar turn 3

Spoiler:

Pathfinders get a grip
Eldrad cast Fortune on Guardians , Perils again but saves this time, and casts Guide on WL again I believe - 3rd time he would waste that cast

EJB moves to the side, tries to shoot Immortals but fluff and jump back to the ruins (no pictures), what cost me a lot is a door in the ruins... you could see it in previous photos...

Warp Spiders Jump to the hill but are within the range to finish Cryptek!, as far away from Barge as possible

WL is urinated off with his broken BL and goes for the Command Barge with some smashing CC love hugging! Definitively from behind this time! I forgot in HtH you hit rear armor, Shop Manager slash Referee kindly reminded that

shooting/assaulting

WL obviously misses 5th and 6th guided shot at charges... smashing with 3 S10 attacks as well as Hammer of Wrath with auto S10 hit..... he hits 3 times... and for the penetration rolls couples of 1's!!!!!!!! what a broken machine... good that 11 is enough to glance. in total it serves 3 wounds and destroys that Barge for another VP... Finally!... for 3 turns he's been targeting barges.... so sad he left ADL....

Warp Spiders do what they do best, kill Cryptek and hide as far away as possible - another VP for Eldar

Spiders can't be seen, at least not by the two Barges here and all the Infantry

Necron turn 4

Spoiler:

getting fast now

I can't phantom why but the Overlord from the wrecked Command Barge is running away, ups sorry , tactically withdrawing away from my ADL... I sincerely think that he could wipe out everything behind ADL single handedly, maybe forced Eldrad to leave Quad Gun and charge him... He was affraid of Instant Death from WL ... well, the more I think about it the more I believe he could have charged Dark Reapers or something... WL was in the open right? with Barges and Crypteks with AP1 weapons looking for targets with no cover...

Warriors & Immortals move towards the ruins behind which Bikes are hidden, kill one through the freaking doors , I obviously fail LD test , 3D6 biking away is not helping, they are off the board looking for nicer place to skim and another VP for the Nekrons - that shouldn't have happened if I was focused and smarter :(

I think it took 2 barges to take out WL - VP for Nekrons, another barge killed one Dark Reapers who stood their ground

Eldar turn 4

Spoiler:

there is little I can do to the 3 Barges, those Black Chickas are provind too hard. So I play a scenario objectives. there are some warriors & immortals to reduce to metal bits and running Warlord seems the Barges can't do crap in CC so I stay in ADL

I cast guide and fortune on Guardians and Guide on Pathfinders hoping for Precision shot on Overlord

Spiders jump on top of the hill to shoot at Warriors

it occurred Dark Reaper Exarch is too far to shoot at Warriors :( (ones close to the hill with skulls that Spiders will target) but I forgot to move him forward... so only one regular one would be able to shoot[

nonetheless I dakka Quad Gun , SL, Spiders and one Reaper at Warriors, after Protocols not many remains

Pathfinders manage to take a wound from the Overlord, 2 more remaining...

Necron Turn 5
Spoiler:

he keeps withdrawing away with the wounded Overlord, moves 2 barges towards Spiders, moves away with the Immortals so that Cryptek would be only in range (if he moved forward he may have got Linebreaker...)

seems that I didn't take as many pictures in the end of the game, sorry for that

my another mistake, he shoots at Dark Reapers with a barge and crypteks, I don't know why I didnt go to ground and they got killed - 5th VP for Necrons. second simply stupid mistake costing mi second VP :(

combined shooting from 2 barges kill 4 Warp Spiders but they hold

Eldar turn 5

Spoiler:

Fortune/guide Guardians, fortune on Pathfinders - rerollale 2+ rules!

I position Warp Spiders behind that Skull Hill in a way they can shoot at Warriors but are not seen by the Barges

to cut story short I wipe out Warriors

another VP for Eldar

Pathfinder pot shots at Overlord miss

will turn 6 happen?

we rolled 4 so yes

Necron/Eldar turn 6

Spoiler:

he moves again towards my ADL, shoots everything in Pathfinders & Guardians, and can't do much since Guardians go to ground

in my turn I try to shoot at Immortals but there is no way to kill that many with Quad gun hiting on 6'es and only 2 Spiders remaing

we roll for turn 7 and it ends

I get a VP for Linebreaker

Game Summary

Spoiler:

Necrons:
WW, Nemesis, Dark Reapers, Bikes, WL = 5

Eldar
Destroyer Lord, 2xWraiths; Scarabs, Catacomb Barge, Immortals, Warriors, Line Breaker, First Blood = 9

something is wrong, when we calculated VPs it was 7:5 for Eldar... I may have done something wrong - i will consult it with my opponent, there maybe some editing needed

nonetheless

VICTORY FOR ELDAR!

post-game thoughts

Spoiler:

well, that was unexpected
I'm satisfied how my army fared, It work as per the tactics worked out for the match. I also like such a league game because you have usually a few days to understand your opponent army and get better prepared. there ale little time constraints in LGS as well so basically you dont have to play a RTS like game as in the regular tournament. I prefer it that way.

I do love 2 Eldar units. Pathfinders and Warp Spiders. There are units I will always use. Spiders alone gave me 2 Vps and contributed to the third one. in my games they very often survive as well. As for Pathfinders.... they are just excellent for the MC hunting, Thermies hunting, killing Destroyer Lords and such

There was a question and a surprise why i didn't take Fire Dragons.... well, to my limited experience they will have 1 shot and will die. in a game like today, together with the obvious Wave Serpent, they would give away 2 VPs...

As an afterthought I believe we made some rules mistakes and forgot about some.

I lost 2 units needlessly (bikes and reapers)... I need not repeat such mistakes...

I also think that if Destroyer Lord reanimated, Overlord charged Dark Reapers when he had a chance and also big Immortal units moving for Linegreaker I might have lost that game

in summary, as of my part, I sincerely don't know what I could do better. maybe shoot Spiders at barges... but then Immortals would pulp me... deep strike in some other place? any ideas?

anyway extremely nice game with lots of fun

last thing that just occurred to me. What would happen if he kept Scarabs and Infantry deep in his deployment and just moved barges and focused on my WL? boring game definately but one that I wouldn't be able to win :(

I hope I will add 3rd game report next week.

hi,

Finished

funny thing, it took me more to write the report than to play the game... almost 4 hours... strange way to spend Saturday night...

I await your feedback and suggestions!

No, you don't always have to play from the corners as depicted in the book. Whoever wins the rolloff picks his corner, and the other player takes the opposite corner.

Also, why didn't the necron player put all 6 wraiths in the same unit? Also, he should have taken Look Out Sir rolls on the DLord and rolled for him to come back....

Warsaw

well,
that means I accidentally cheated him in deployment... will remember it next time

I have no idea why he split Wraiths

this is League for Beginners so we do some pretty obvious mistakes :/
