Whats up Dakka. Was cruising through Craigslist in Arizona and found the link below. While it could be some poor saps ex selling of the junk he left behind after a bad breakup something just seems slightly off. Guy selling it says he has no idea how much it is worth but has multiple armies that are painted and case'd. So I'll leave this link here in the hopes that if you are missing an army for some less than honorable reason this will reunite you with it.

Could also just be a parent selling their dead kid's stuff.

It could be. Not trying to call anyone out on it. What I mentioned above plus trying to sell it all as 1 lump deal. If its legit then theres no harm no foul. If someone is looking for a stolen army then then this ups their chances of finding it.

Had a glance over it and a quick google of "Stolen X Army" to check, but nothing came up for the Eldar or Marines.

Something came up for the Tau, in the form of this post on Warseer: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?358542-Stolen-Tau-Army-Sacramento-CA

Had 2500pts of Tau stolen, most of it unpainted, but two tanks were painted up in khaki and blue/grey. One of them is definately blue and grey, but the other is blue, grey, and some colour that looks lighter than black (but could equally be the light shining on it).

It's still a long-shot, since it's across half of the US in terms of state difference, but the army has been missing for a good few months. Then again, the broadsides and 3 suits are painted, and there should be 9 more crisis suits and a ton of other stuff.

But that's all I've found. Either nobody has spoken up about stolen stuff, or it's legit.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I don't see what's so odd about it. "Worth $1000-1500" isn't the same as "retail price of $1000-1500", and $1000-1500 is, if anything, too much money for several badly painted armies. And "no idea what they're worth" isn't the same as "I don't know anything about this game", it could just as easily be someone who just doesn't have a good idea of how much used armies go for.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

You would be surprised how often things come up on Craigslist where the seller has no idea what it is worth - especially with regards to miniatures. People who abandon property, storage units that go into default for non-payment, parents getting rid of their kids junk they no longer want.

I routinely run searches for different items that I am after and it never ceases to amaze me how often the person who has a rare model kit or other item doesn't much care what it is - they just want to offload it.

Heck, fifteen years ago or so I had several cases stolen from me... turned out that the person that I thought had stolen them had.

Then the thief went away for a vacation courtesy of the County Sheriff's department (jail time!)....

I found my miniatures being sold by the thief's mum... for $5.

I bought them back, then told her that they had been stolen from me.

She offered me my money back, but I told her 'no, keep the money - but don't tell him who bought them, just how much you sold them for....'

My boyfriend and I picked up a couple of hundred minis from a consignment centre for a buck each, it turned out that a guy had them in storage and had stopped paying his storage fees. They actually had a not for sale sign on them, because the fellow at the consignment centre didn't want the hassle of valuing them.

I've bought a lot of armies from parents of college kids going off to school. It can be awkward when some moms want to get full retail for poorly painted figs.

I've also inadvertantly bought a stolen army from Craigslist but was able to return it to it's original owner (thru the painting service he'd used).
