Hi there all this is just a bit of an idea to see what people are using and what they find works best!
I use lots of different flocks but i want to know what your using.
Let me know about where you get it, colours, mixes, how you apply it etc!
What flock do YOU use?

I like browsing through the local craft stores for cheap materials. For the Tau that I was doing, I found a $2 bag of broken seashell pieces and used them as shattered concrete for urban bases.

Cheapest way that lets you customise your flock:

I've also managed to make little rocks by breaking pebbles with a hammer (very gentle taps will smash the ones I get from bunnings). Usually I'd do that on something like paper (as it'll obviously mark whatever's underneath it) so I can collect most of it and put it in a container. If you had a metal table or something you didn't mind denting (or wood lying around; I don't have any) then you could also use that.

I have a jar of actual Mt. St. Helens ash from when it erupted decades ago. I mostly use that. Why paint my bases to look like volcanic ash when I can just use actual volcanic ash?
BTW, you can buy actual volcanic ash on eBay if you want to try this. Lately, with all the different pigments and base materials available, I only give my bases a brown basecoat and the rest is just particulates glued on top of that. They don't just look better than my old way, it's easier and more realistic than all that drybrushing and washing.... Depending on the base, of course. Some bases were meant to be hand-painted.
