I believe that AP 1 and AP 2 should cancel feel no pain again. I don't think I've seen a single ap 1 or 2 weapon that shouldn't cancel it.

Here is my point, a plasma gun, shoots out a small sun. If it hits you, it hurts you. quite a bit. However, Plague marines, are toughness 5, and do not fall within the instant death category. So he gets a try to not feel pain. I believe he wasn't going to feel pain, regardless, as he died in some spectacularly plasmay way.

Same with melta guns. It can't instakill a plaguemarine because he's toughness 5, but I don't think hes going to be shrugging off the wound a meltagun causes, regardless of which fluff description of the wound you choose to describe it.

So, I guess thoughts?

You are proposing to make Feel No Pain pointless by combining one of the limiters of the previous edition with the reduced save chance of the new edition. Fluff does not play into the rules logic of this game.

AP2: Sniper bullets and plasma. Goes right through you. Leaves a hole. If you feel no pain, it ain't gonna hinder you much.

AP1: Vaporization gak. Hyperlasers. Deathbeams. If it's not high-powered (i.e. 6+, liable to ID you anyways), it's going to be things like monofilaments which, while devastating, won't hurt you if you don't feel pain and aren't lethal.

It's an abstract general roll for an abstract general range of attacks. For every example you can give where it would be appropriate to not give FNP, there's one or more where it is.

Pit your chainsword against my chainsw- wait that's Heresy.

Hmm, good points. I was just trying to gauge other people's reactions. I suppose if I were biased one way or the other, it'd be against feel no pain, since I only operate with a single squad in my army using it, but I've never played against anyone and felt "wow, that game was really going my way if it weren't for feel no pain!"

(okay, well, mephiston is a the god damn worst when he has feel no pain)

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Given the drop to it only working on 5+ I'd say that its a fair trade for it now working against way more attacks.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
