Hello Dakka! I have recently been looking at the new Tau as the army I want to do (I like the optimistic, innovative race as a change to all the other, more depressing, factions.), and I want the army to be fairly balanced when it comes to the proportions of Fire Warriors to Auxiliary units like Kroot, and Vespid. I also may be getting some AOBR Orks for free from a friend, so I want to try and incorporate them as Allies to my Tau force.

Here's the dilemma, I can't pick a colour scheme for all these forces! Like, I want to do my force with the actual Tau units to be one colour, the Kroot another, the Vespid a third colour, and the Orks a fourth colour when it comes to their predominant scheme. Like, I want the Tau's armour, the Kroot's skin, the Vespids chitin, and the ork's skin/ armour to all be different, but part of the same overall scheme. I'm thinking of using a Tetradic colour scheme for the entire army, but with each race having its own colour, and one secondary, spot colour to unify them.

What is a good colour for Tau that is easy to paint, and is not green? From there, I'll try and find a colour scheme for the rest of the races present, so any advice is welcome.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

My plan is to go for a red-white scheme. The armour will be somewhere between blood angel and fire dragon, more on the darker spectrum I think. The white will be slightly off, very late grey probably. So they should really stand out, and digital camo in red/orange for the vehicles will look good I reckon. The Vespid armour will be the same, should work with the light blue of their skin.
