A little info for the work blocked please?

What do you mean the Greek States? Is that a pre-order bonus? Cause if so, I'm on this like a fat kid on cake.

Pre-Order Bonus grants you access to the Greek States of Athens. Epirus, and Sparta.

The Collectors Edition though is like the first time I've ever been interested in a collectors edition for a game:

The Total War™: ROME II Collector’s Edition will be produced in a single, extremely limited run; only 22,000 individually numbered copies will be manufactured.

The CE contains a wealth of custom, Roman-themed games and items, bound in a leather-effect presentation box, complete with gold logo and magnetic closure; including:

Numbered copy of Total War™: ROME II

The most ambitious and expansive game in the Total War™ series to date, ROME II brings the statecraft, politics, intrigue, diplomacy and epic battles of the ancient world to life in thrilling detail. This version comes in a debossed Steelbook™ case, laser-etched with your unique collector’s number in Roman numerals.

Tabula set

The Roman forerunner to Backgammon, this Tabula set comprises 30 bone-effect game pieces supplied in their own burlap drawstring bag; the board itself is built into the base of the Collector’s Edition box.

Tesserae Dice

Three replica bone-effect dice for use in a variety of games. The design is based on original Roman Tesserae, found at the archaeological site of Herculaneum.

Total War Cards™: PUNIC WARS

Designed from the ground up to echo elements from ROME II, Total War Cards is a game of skill and luck for two players. Involving combat, territorial control, resource management and technological development, PUNIC WARS consists of 58 high-quality playing cards and a game-board printed with the PUNIC WARS tech-tree.

Canvas Campaign Map

A reminder of the world you must conquer, this ribbon-tied canvas map depicts each of the 57 provinces of the ROME II campaign.

Roman Onager

A complete, fully-functional Onager, or Roman siege catapult. This easy-to-assemble kit is constructed from weathered wood and steel, measures 26cm x 12cm x 12cm, and is capable of unleashing small projectiles at a variety of inanimate objects which may have affronted the glory of your empire.

That's some cool stuff.

No will not be getting this, I have sadly little use for a Onager or Roman dice, but it looks like a good kit though

I totally want an Onager XD I'll use it to shoot dice at my opponent when he's moving his army next time I play 40k

Ok, so I'll check if Gamestop is offering the same thing for preorder, since I don't have to pay all at once with them. If not, then Steam it is who gets my money.

I WANT SPARTA!!!

I'd love an Onager! I have no use for it, but it would be cool, no?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In all seriousness, I'd have preferred it if they had a Celtic states pack so I could play as the Helvetii or Galatians or something cool like that. But if you have to buy this to get the factions, I'm not sure modding will be supported that well . . .

No not really, but say if they offered me a reward like say a ring or a necklace I would be much more inclined to spend money on it. It was this amongst a lot of other things that made me cash out for the collectors edition of The Witcher 2

Steam wants £45 for it, giving me the option to play as the Greek states (probably my favourites because Sparta and Spartans) as a pre-order bonus, or play.com wants £26, giving me the option to save £19 by not getting the Greek states.

Not even I think Sparta is worth £19.

I'd assume it's easy enough to mod the Greek states to be playavle

This would be true of Total War Pre-Shogun II. The descr.strat file that could commonly be used to manipulate the game to make unplayable factions playable no longer exists. So unless its in the base game (probable) and you can crack the game to make them playable that doesn't work anymore.

That's what worries me though - that the game won't be easy to mod.

Well apparently the greek states come with any pre-order from participating retailers, of which Amazon is said to be one, so the £15-£20 discrepancy seems to just be based around the fact that you don't need to handle a disc in order to install it if purchased on Steam.

Well that's a dick move. The Greek states were the only ones worth playing.

Still, I assume it'll be available as a cheap DLC after a release. One would hope, anyway.

It will. The Hattori were a prerelease bonus in Shogun 2 and went on sale for like $4 three months after release.

Call me cynical, but I wonder if this one will have critical bugs (coop campaign desync) that go unfixed for 12 months after release.

Still, Shogun 2 was officially the cutest game ever so I can't imagine not getting this one sooner or later.

The huge number of tiny little guys running around fighting is just the best thing ever. The music really helped, too. It's part of why I like tabletop wargaming, as well.

I don't know why these things make my internal cuteness metrics go berserk, but they do.

I hope they bring back a bridge map for custom games. After a day of feeling depressed, there's just something satisfying about sticking an army of cannons, siege units, or archers at your end of the bridge in the Medieval 2 map, and watching several CPU armies-worth of highland rabbles try to cross it.

Same with Rome TW and sticking a unit of fully upgraded Spartans at the end versus cavalry (since they can't swim across) and watching all the cavalry hit the wall of spears and fall over.

I was disappointed that Napoleon, Empire, and Shogun 2 didn't have maps like that to choose from; sometimes you just really need to slaughter thousands of pixels in order to feel better.

There's a good grip of them so far. Pontus, Seleucids, Gaul, Germans, Britons, etc... Preordering adds 3 more.

Preordering gives you access to the "Greek Cities" who are then divided into the 3 factions of Athens, Sparta, and Epirus. If you look through the factions on their main page, many of them are divided into three internal factions. Exactly how these will play isn't known completely but presumably they might be the skill trees for the game (replaced Bushido and Zen from Shogun 2) and that the player will build their relationship with these internal political factions for bonus' while playing the game (this is speculation about how the mechanics will work).
