Pre Game Report:

Spoiler:
I knew I was going to have a tough match against this list because it took first at our LGS and I wanted to play against it because I didn't get the chance to and not to mention a great way to test harlies in cc/ see what Tyranids are all about. This game is also letting me get a feel for when I might play against him again on Saturday in a team tourney (he is allied to Tau... ). Luckily my ally is an ork player and we jsut plan on having fun . No I did not tailor this list at all if anyone anyone thinks I did.

Deployment: Short table edge

Mission: Purge the Alien

Night Fight: No

Tyranids went first and I try to steal initiative, but don't.

Tyranid 1:

Spoiler:
Everything advances towards me and the flyrants swoop. He casts iron arm on his non warlord flyrant (only +1) and a mama bug.

Everyone runs as well, but the Flyrants don't like skyfire so one of them target the fragons, but I go to ground and the Exarch lives! He is then forced to have the other one (his warlord) take them out.

First blood to the Tyranids!

Eldar 1:

Spoiler:
Quins and Avatar are fortuned and the Avatar is guided. They also move to within charge range of his warlord. The WS moves close to the quad and the DA's get out. WW shift around a little to get full view of a Flyrant.

Shooting happens and was prob the most annoying turn for me. Everything shoots, DA's Bladestorm, into the flyrants and the warlord became grounded, but the iron armed Flyrant stayed in the air with 1 wound or none on it. Avatar shoots the Wailing Doom at the Warlord and it goes SPLAT.

Tyranids 2:

Spoiler:
Everything moves up again and the Zoeys are too afraid to cast anything and the HG are still out of range MaMa bug close to Pathfinders took a perils. The Doom drops in, scatter back a bit, but is still able to get both my harlies and DA. Only 2 DA would die though as harlies pass LD. Flyrant goes behind the DA's and is still swooping.

Shooting goes off to where the flyrant wrecks all of my WW . Other units shoot at random things and nothing dies.

Eldar 2:

Spoiler:
Powers go off again and the harlies say hi to the doom by making a nice crescent around him with the Avatar close behind. The DA's just shift around so that they are outside of the doom's range.

The Avatar hits, wounds and annihilates the doom leaving nothing for the harlies to kill, for they are not close to the flyrant so the shoot at the Spore and take off a wound. The exarch then uses the Quad to shoot at the flyrant and puts on 2 wounds, but the cracker is still in the air even with the WS shooting at it. Pathfinders shot at a MaMa bug and put a wound.

Harlies assault the spore and kill it and consolidate back to the ADL 5 in.

Tyrandis 3:

Spoiler:
No powers go off and the HG are finally in range to shoot at my harlies . The Flyrant comes down to Assault my DA's.

Flyrant shoots and kills 3 DA's and the HG put 2 wounds on the Avatar . The MaMa bug near the Pathfinders spawn 10-12 gants and come toward the Avatar to bog him down. The other MaMa spawns a few and they proceed to wound once and I roll . Worst feeling of losing a harly to a gaunt while only needing a 2+. Everything else runs excpet a mama bug who spawned and shoots at the pathfinders and kills one! The zoeys then try to do their shooting blast attack on the harlies and I deny all but one and it kills one or 2 harlies.

Mama Bug assaults the Pathfinders and we stay in combat after losing 2. Flyrant assaults DA's and wipes out all but 2 and they would do nothing except become another snack. This game is quickly turning into an assault game, but his flyrant is now no longer flying! The brooded gants then swarm the Avatar and Avatar kills 2.

Eldar 3:

Spoiler:
Powers are cast successfully again with a periled doom attempt, but saved. The harlies move toward the flyrant, cackling as they do so since they taste blood. The WS shifts around a lil bit.

Would you look at that, the WS killed the flyrant with the SL and chin cannon...ah well. The harlies then wait for the tyranid rush.

Avatar would then kill 2 more of the little buggers and laugh as they try to claw at him. The mama bug would take out another pathfinder.

Tyranid 4:

Spoiler:
gants come from everywhere and a group hops up to bar the zoeys.

The gants try to shoot, but I save em all. HG shoot and kill nadda.

They would then charge and I wreck them all, but one I would then hit and run, but go toward his unprotected zoeys with an 11" consolidate! (the tyranid guy says "o gak" to this) The Avatar then wipes out 3 more gants off the face of the earth. A group of gants then join the Pathfinder fight and at the end of it all 2 still live, but fail ld and run away.

Eldar 4:

Spoiler:
Now I am at a Dilema here. Do I turbo boost the WS or do I stick around and shoot up more gants (either way the HG were withing range)? The Harlies were fortuned along with the Avatar and I saved that one power for Mid War . I would also fail to cast fortune on the Avatar.

Well my answer came to me when my non regrouped Pathfinders didn't hit the lonely gant. The WS quickly fixed that. The harlies then proceed to shoot at the zoeys and deal no damage and then came the time to War our minds. Cast it fine....he failed deny....I won by 3...He saved all of them with a 3++ .

All that was left was to teach those zoeys a lesson! so I charged them and the Harlies dealt enough and he failed to save 4 wounds. So that is 2 dead . Eldrad's turn to pitch and I am praying to the dice gods atm. He hits with 2...Wounds with both...He got 2 2's . Neither of us could believe it and I was jumping for joy. I then consolidate 2". The Avatar kills 3 more bugs and leave 4 left!

Tyranids 5:

Spoiler:
MaMa's then brood some more, but then both roll doubles, but make a fair number between them ( 12 and 8) After the end of the movement phase my harlies are completely surrounded by gants and my Pathfinders is about to die from hammer of wrath.

Shooting goes off and I put most if not all of the wounds on Eldrad and save them all except a harly dies from the other side of gaunts shooting so i have 6 harlies left with Eldrad and the Avatar going against all of these bugs...God I love fortune. Mama bug then shoots and only kills one pathfinder. HG destroy the WS.

Assault happens and 10 more gaunts join the Avatar and he concludes to only kill 1... ....To top it off he also takes a wound and is left with one left . The blod assault on the harlies happen and there is 2 squads of 8 and a squad of 12 surrounding them. I focus on one of the 8 squad and one if left at the end...Harlies don't like finishing I swear. Eldrad then has 10 gants striking at him and saves them like a champ. The other harlies would live though the onslaught as well. MaMa bug then finishes off the last Pathfinder

I decided to not hit and run because I didn't thing I would be able to assault that lone gant, but turns out that chosing not to was more exciting.

Eldar 5:

Spoiler:
I really want this turn to end so I don't have to fret another turn of gant swarming. No movement happened because we are all in combat Eldrad does suffer a perils from casting something ( my helm failed me), but Fortune is up again!

No shooting either MUAHAHAHAHHHA!

So for the All important Assault. Heres the Kill point situation: Avatar has 3 more gants to kill for a VP (other than the other 10) Harlies have one gant and then a squad of 8 and another squad of 12. I see 1 VP and possibly 2 more! So here we go for all the marbles. 2 Harlequins go after the lone gant and the other 4+Eldrad go after the group of 8. The 2 harlies end up putting only one wound on the gant and this is when I am about to scream in agony until he rolls a 4 for the save. phew.... The other Harlies and Eldrad don't end up killing the squad ( I think they only kill a total of 5 at most). Attention then goes to the Avatar fight since he can possibly kill him as well. I kill the 3 gants with pizzaz and then the nail bitter moment. He puts on 2 wounds or one and my knees start to go weak. I roll and what do I see? The man is alive!

Tyranid/Eldar: 6-7

Spoiler:
We then roll to see if the game went on and he rolled a + . Making me shout for joy because the blood bath was over.

So the final result is 9-7 Eldar victory!

VP break down:

Tyranids Kill:

WW, Fragons (First Blood), DA, WS, Pathfinders, LineBreaker

Eldar Kills:

3 groups of gants, 2 Flyrant (Warlord), Doom, Spore, Zoeys

Post game report:

Spoiler:
Hoorah! I beat a tourney list with something that shouldn't have beaten it. I think if it had been any other kind of game things would have been more tipped in his favor. A win is a win though and the dice were on my side this game...well some times. I now know why Flyrants are feared...They are a to ground and one would think all of my dakka would have grounded both....Anyways I digress and am going to try a different way of protecting my Fragons next time. Hope you had a nice read and thanks for reading!

Very nicely done. I don't find Flyrants all that scary versus vehicle flyer spam for my Eldar. Once you ground the Flyrant, your rangers and Fragons should make short work of them in addition to other dakka.

But our Str 6 Dakka is much less reliable at bringing down AV12 flyers like the Vendetta. AV12 flyer spam lists give me problems if the player is strong enough to use them right. Sometimes I can just avoid their fire with the speed of my army.

Solid report. I have to say though, including average Tervigon spawns the Tyranid player has double your Kill Points. It's a competitive army, but as a Tyranid player myself I've been pushed to 2nd-3rd in multiple FLGS tournaments because of Purge the Alien.

Like I said had this been any other game the favor would more have been his and I knew I was facing a competitive list since I asked to play it to learn what they do in case we face each other in a team tourney this Sat. The Tyranid guy also said "you win new game?" when the deployment and mission was figured out XD. Half jokingly though lol.

The reason why I don't play mobile Eldar is because that is what we CAN do and I am looking for the non conventional routes all time and see how they go.
