Anyway, I've been playing Warpath and KOW, enjoying both, love the design philosophy....however, I have one question about KOW; if a unit suffers a number of wounds equal to its number of men, is it automatically destroyed?

Nope, it still has to fail the "leadership" roll. That's how dwarven berserkers and Brock riders are able to dish out pain for a while-low body count, high morale, they stay in the fight despite their wounds.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Thanks! I guess that means that a unit can suffer more wounds than it has men?

Yes. the models do not represent any kind of in-game effect whatsoever; only the "block" in it's totality has any stats or game effects at all.
Take a look at undead wights for example; Ne -/15 with only 3 models

Also keep in mind the "wounds"
1) do not have to be fatal
2) do not necessarily represent physical injury; "nearly" getting your head lopped off but getting away with it without a (physical) scratch can still be quite unnerving.

"blocks" or groups of fighters seldom die to the last man; often they 'break' and make a run for it (live to fight another day etc). that's what's happening a lot of the time (if of course you care anything at all for what "really" happens in this particular high fantasy setting )

Exactly - it is more that the unit is folding under weight of lost morale than of actual damage.

And, for the record - Wights are bad news! I tore through a city wall with a unit of them.... Plus, being Evil Dead, they aren't shaken before they break... so they do their full amount of harm right up until the unit crumbles to dust....

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.
