I did find the other thread regarding it, seemed a bit dated to avoiding commenting on it.
Got access to the Closed Beta yesterday so I have tried it out.
Now I did end up paying the $90 for the beta access, your probably thinking $90 just for beta access is a bit much but it also contained 9,000 station cash which is roughly $80 on its own. So I felt that $10 for all the added extras was worth it. There is only one thing I don't like about the pre-order bonuses and that is the ridable dragon. I know it looks pretty nice, however you usually don't get the flying mount until level 14-16(I'v heard other getting it as low as 10). This allows you to quickly bypass some of the challenge in getting your first mount to get access to player housing as the portal is located in the level 30 zone.
Now before I go much further, even though the game is called Dragons Prophet most of the "dragons" are not really dragons in the tradition sense, they are creature that have some dragonic features.
So what do I think of the game?? Its WoW with better combat basically.
Good Points -
- Soloable instances
- Action based combat
- Various types of "dragons" to tame
- Easy to identify said dragons by having Dragonkin in their name
- Provides interesting character builds as not only do you have damage/vitality to raise but also charisma to tame new dragons
- Nice water graphics
- CDG(my own term

) Collectible Dragon Game - its essentially Pokemon but with dragons
Bad Points -
- Gathering nodes are not player specific, I blame Guild Wars 2 for this one. None of the nodes are "locked" to the player. If I'm fighting away trying to get to a node then some randomer comes and get it before me I'm gonna be pretty annoyed.
- The graphics seems very generic for an MMO, okay they are better than WoW graphics but I feel more could have been done.
- Limited space for Dragons, so to begin you have 4 slots total for dragons, 2 in the stable and 2 in the lair. These can be upgraded by paying station cash
- Inventory size(this is probably my biggest issue) is so god damn small that I have to trash items mid instance just to get the decent loot that may drop. Also(it may be a bug) you need 2 empty inventory slots to gather anything from gathering nodes, even if you have the same item in your inventory already.
Neutral Points-
- All crafting skills can be done on one character. This is good and bad, it depends how you look at it. One the good side you don't have to worry about trying to transfer crafting materials over to your other character who can make only potions. On the other had it doesn't promote replay-ability that much, the only reason to roll up another character is the class.
- The taming minigame is something I'm still undecided on, at first it seems nice since you are fighting against the dragons will but it does seem to appear to just increase the game time slightly. I do like the fact that there is some "skill" involved to taming dragons other than needing high charisma.
- Questing is the traditional "shopping list" system, go out with 5-10 quests, complete them all in one go then go and cash them in. Nothin special.
- World events also appear to be perma-active, after completing it it reverts back to stage 1 of the event. This to me seems to be for testing purposes however if it was intended to this way then I'm not a fan of that, hence why its placed in the neutral section for now.
Now as with most games in Beta, all these things are subject to change but so far I find it a very solid game. Now whether my $10 investment will be worth it is still yet to be seen. At least if Dragons Prophet does fall flat I have 9,000 station cash to spend on other SOE games like Planetside 2 and other SOE games which I may try.
I will most likely comeback to this and update it when the Open beta starts just to see how things have changed.
So theres my thoughts so far, I haven't tried everything out yet. Just wonder what other people think of this game.
