Could any DakkaDakka members who work in design take a moment to cast an eye over the web page example that I will be sticking up. I'd realised that my web sills were getting rusty, so I have been working on getting them back up to speed. This mini project involves the use of the 960 Grid System.

I need to be inspired creatively so I cast around for some inspiration and my eyes fell upon a Tannhauser board game I have. This was filled with lovely bits of artwork I could use. It's not going to be a fully functional site, just one that I can use to try out some different layout ideas. Currently none of the links work as it's the only page I've done so far.

Some quick background. I'm an all rounder when it comes to design, I like to be involved in all areas. On this page the two figures in the centre, the artwork on the right hand side, the main log and the two faction symbols were scanned from the Tannhauser rule book and edited. The background paper was made by mixing two paper textures together. I then made some burn holes in a sheet of paper and applied those, with some wood textures for the table behind. I also sourced a German flak tower plan, hand written page and an occult symbol to add into the mix. The pentagram necklace and the bullets I made in 3d Max. Finally I added a paper texture for the centre piece.

So basically, does it work as a piece of design and webpage? http://www.wulfstandesign.co.uk/examples/tannhauser_index.html

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

It works as design for me, but it loaded terribly slow for a website.. even with that much graphics, it should have loaded faster. Must be a coding issue. Important stuff with websites that coding and what not.

Or you are hosting it way off the backbone of the internet on some ancient server.

Ta. Yeah I may need to look at the background image to see if I can shrink it down a bit.

Not sure about the need for scrolling, though its not a major issue.

Links should be added to the names of the factions, not just their insignia.

Is that area around the Tanhauser logo all a link? Seems like the box has been set too wide.

The HTML seems fine, but I'm probably using an older version than you are... As its only a test I'm feeling my comments are a little nitpicky though. =)

Nope logo should be a logo nothing more. Will check that out. No don't worry about the nitpickiing, it could highlight something I'd missed. The content is there just as content. It's just so I've got something more than Lorem Ipsum and it looks interesting

As for the loading speed, have you tried making the background black and white? It could improve the loading speed.

Aside from that it looks nice.
