Defending Guardian Defender

I have decided to start playing warmachine and have gone with cryx. I have picked up an army off of a friend and was looking into what I else I should pick up.
So far I have
War witch denegra
Goreshade the bastard and death walker
1 defiler
2 death rippers
2 ripjaws
20 bane knights
Bane lord tartarus
Nightmare
2 pistol wraiths
Any advice on what to buy next or on an army list with what I have would be awesome

"What would you like to do with your force?" would be the first question to ask. Every warcaster has a different impact on what the army does best and how they play, cryx more so then others. Would you like to do a more magic based list? Lots of stompy jacks? Wave after wave of infantry?
What you have there is a solid start, Bane knights are scary especially when paired with Tartarus and they work well with Goreshade.
Safe choices normally include for cryx a seether or two to expand your heavy jacks, Bane Thralls and the withershadow combine. But it's best to get an idea in your mind as to a direction before investing too much on random things.

Well so far I have only had 1 game when I used goreshade and was mostly told what to do by my friend. I think I quite like the idea of wave after wave of infantry and with some magic in there to back which gets up in there face and in combat and smashes things.
I was thinking of picking up the Bane Thralls for Goreshades feat last time my friend let me proxy my bane knights.

Cryx is all about waves of infantry. You have chosen well and have a great force to start with and learn the game.
After you have played and learned a bit then you can start branching out.
Couple of the first things you probably want on your list are bane thralls w/ UA and a skarlock thrall.
Other than that it really just depends on where you want to go next. If you want hordes of dudes, though, start looking at mechanithralls.

Yeah Mechanithralls are the quintessential wave of mechanical zombies, they're not too bad either for their point cost. If you do go for them you'll want to look at a stitch thrall as well to get them back up after they've been shot to pieces.
...I can't believe I forgot the Skarlock... Get one of those, don't argue.
Having had a look through the casters in my forces of warmachine book and for the large part you can simply pick which ones you want to run the infantry spam with. The one I'd suggest avoiding though is Mortenebra as she's definetly the Jack caster. Venethrax is also a bit skewed towards fighting hordes so might be a little less useful. Beyond that, for a straight forward technique like that, anyone will work. The effect might be a little varied and Epic Goreshade definetly prefers Bane Thralls to Bane knights.
Warwitch sirens might also be worth considering as a form of versatile support.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to be looking into getting another game in or 2 tomorrow. Hopefully that will give me a better idea of how the army plays and what I want next. I was already advised to pick up a skarlock and a warwitch siren so I am thinking of ordering those first. After that I will definitely look at the Mechanithralls and the stitch thralls. Caster wise I have only used goreshade so far so I might try out deneghra tomorrow. I was looking at getting either Terminus or asphyxious as another option as a caster.

You have a lot of Arc Nodes. Consider a heavy like a seether or DeathJack if you want to get a feel for the glass cannon aspect of Cryx.
Those bane knights are truly mean, I would advise you to look up 'The Zen of 30 Bane Knights' written by Sanctjud on the PP forums, it's an odd strategy but with what you have, you're already two thirds there.

You need at least a minimum unit of bane thralls for Goreshade's feat. He summons six of them into play so you'll need those waiting on the sidelines.
