Alright, so at my local gaming store, we play 1500 pts and I'm just now building up enough Space Wolves to play a regular game. There's also a tournament coming up that's somewhat nearby and is built for two allied contingents of 1000 pts, and I have two friends, one that plays crons and one that plays Eldar and I'm sure either of them would be psyched to go with. So here I'm going to layout my Space Wolf drop pod list, one for casual gaming and one for the tournament.

Tournament list
HQ:
Rune Priest

Elites:
3x Wolf Guard with combi meltas and powerfists

Troops:
5x Grey Hunters with a Rhino
9x Grey Hunters, meltagun, drop pod
9x Grey Hunters, meltagun, drop pod
9x Grey Hunters, meltagun, drop pod

Heavy Support:
5x Long Fangs, 4 with missile launchers

994 points. I could lose one combi melta and get a Chooser of the Slain on the Rune Priest, or just slap a dozer blade on the Rhino and call it good. I feel like this list will provide a lot of close range punch to the long range gunline my friends like to play and with only the Long Fangs in the back field and not being relegated to an objective so they can set up anywhere, ally rules won't be a big issue with either of my friends

"Fun list" The next 500 points pretty much go into two units, just because they're awesome
HQ:
Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf, Stormshield, Frostblade, Runic Armor, Wolftooth Necklace, Saga of the Warrior Born

Elites:
Same three wolfguard

Troops:
Same as above

Fast attack:
3 man Thunder Wolf calvary with storm shields, one with thunder hammer

Heavy Support:
Same long fang pack but given a razorback with either Las/Plas or TL'd Lascannons.

1499 pts

I definitely need more advice on the first one than the second one, but besides bashing my 500 pt Thunderwolf-star, I welcome any criticism on either list. So have at it Dakkaers.

its a pretty solid list but.. what about flyers... you just have the 4 longfangs

Consider the aegis defence line (ADL) with quad gun. 100pt anti air, deploy the LF behind and the squad leader can man it, as with 4ML split fire is not critical.

Depending on your situation/available models, if you plan to keep running drop pods then aim for another 2, which will drop the rhino off and possibly use the other for the long fangs (but do not embark them in it, it just becomes an empty drop). This will then see you rain your 3 main GH squads dropping on turn 1. In which case you should look at having your wolf lord join one of these to get him into combat by turn 2.

For the next 500pts, thunder wolves are cool but have high odds of getting dropped p as they cross the table. Especially if you are going 2nd and they have only them and the fangs to target. If you really like them then your style might need to move from drop pod (steel rain) to rhino rush the rhino sides can shield the thunder wolves advance. Also, get some nice cheap fenrisian wolves as a shield for them, they can fall quickly but draw fire in the process.

Solid troop core, I would consider the mark of the wulfen for the melta squads and wolf standards if possible, using your large squad size really compounds the benefits of the banner.

I would throw termie armor on your WG with an SS. This will help to further protect your GH. The fire that will focus on your squad will have to go through him. You have to make some room in the DP. Also my experience with TWC hasn't been too good. I use to run them in a rhino rush GH spam army. This was in 5th ed, and they did pretty good. Now I don't bother bringing them unless I go over 1500. GH, LF, and RPs are just such a clutch choice from the SW codex, I would just focus on adding more of them.

An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded

Seems fun, but like previously stated you are lacking in the aa department. I would recommend dropping the wolf guard and in their stead increase the grey hunters squad to 10 to get the second free special weapon and try and get an ADL. In this edition wolf guard with power fists are lacking because if they get challenged, they will go last and most likely killed before they can swing and then there goes a 40+ point model.
