Hey guys so I recently figured out how to base my grenadiers (hopefully in correct squads and WYSIWYG format) and I used heavy amounts of glue and sand instead of the spackle stuff to get rid of the hard edges around the cast bases on the individual models. Overall I think the sand looks good.

I'm looking to make a European looking base, like France or Germany type ground, what should i do for that? I'm going to spray over these guys black. So I can start from scratch, I have the woodland scenics burnt grass flock, would that work for Europe? Should I paint the sand a dark brown before flock? I'm also thinking bushes what should I do for that? Should I leave patches of sand painted brown? Sorry for all the questions I just want to get it right.

Thanks for any help!

Cory

What you are doing is what i do for my base.Yes, i would paint the Sand a Earth color then build it up in layers,Sand paint, brown flock,GRasss flock then optional static/tufts of grass or whatever you like. hereis a pik of mine. Also i agree with you putty stinks. If going the putty route i found that Plumbers GS works the best alot cleaner and stronger. If you want Euroean look i would look around for assecories and tufts of vegetation that are native of the areas. Also for a god refernce check out Big ps 20mm models for a reference in the historicals section. Even though he wont admit it he is one of the best ww2 guy out their.

Thanks for the tips! I did another layer of sand today. I'm going to base coat black and then grave yard earth, highlight dry brush of tallarn sand then ill glue on woodland scenics burnt grass. Then get some clump foliage for bushes. Do you think the burnt grass is the right Color or should I use different stuff? Any recommendations for flock?
