New Mac Pro

The top spec consists of Duel Xeons and Duel AMD Fire pro's. In a 10" 6.6" Cylinder. This thing is going to be extremely expensive. As those will all be Custom PCB's in order for them to fit in such a tiny computer. Then there is the fact that it is going to be impossible to upgrade. So you will be paying out out close on £5000 for a rig that you are stuck with the factory spec on.

The Old mac Pro allowed for you to upgrade parts at least.

Then there is the expansion options, all using thunderbolt. So you end up with a mess of wires, kind of the opposite reason on why you would want a mac in a tiny cylinder in the first place.

I'm also a little concerned about the fact Apple say it is completely silent. Now I run Duel Xeons on my Server And I can tell you for a fact that just having duel Xeons in a computer creates enough heat to warm a small sized apartment, Add to that two stupidly powerful Fire pro's and you have a lot of Heat being generated in a tiny space. And a supposedly silent cooling system. Passive cooling is not enough. And a small water-cooling setup will be useless as the maximum sized radiator they could possibly fit in this, is going to be a 6" round radiator. And that wont give nearly enough cooling overhead to counteract 2 xeons and 2 fire pro's. I would be very interested in how they are actually doing it on the top spec model.

I am never a fan of Mac's at all. I was forced to get an ipad due to GW only putting out stuff on iOS. But I appreciate what they are and what they can do. But I think this is just going to be an iBin.

Apple have a long track record of terrible product design. I can't see them pulling a good one out in a hrry, but you never know, it could happen.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

No only the general macs, the old mac pros where a lot like normal pc systems. You could upgrade components.

I think most mac pro users are like me.. they buy a mac pro, and never upgrade it. OK, I bought a video card once but that was just because the old one died.

They probably figure people that want an upgradable PC are mostly gamer types, and they will buy a PC not a Mac. Macs are for lazy people like me that just want to set something up and go for 5 years before they need a new one. Right now I have a 3 year old 17" macbook pro that's still going strong.

But yeah, that top spec is gonna be hella expensive, I don't see anyone buying that unless it's some big video editing house or something like that. If I were to get a new system today, I'd probably just get a 27" iMac.

I have a 21.5" iMac that I didn't want. My wife went out out with my credit card to buy a new desktop PC whilst I was at work and came back with an iMac.

But i've really come to love the thing. I can run just about any PC game using Cider or Wineskin, it's a lovely thing to look at, the keyboard and mouse are both ergonomically perfect (for me) and it doesn't make a sound.

It's the first mac i've ever used and, although not completely upgradable (I can up the Ram), it's just a really nice thing to have and use. I'm a fan

As for the Mac Pro? I'll be giving it a miss thanks. As I do most of my gaming on console and my wife only ever uses our iMac to surf and play PvZ, I don't see the point... Mind you, if I win the £95 million up for grabs tonight in the lottery? I'll take two....

Yeah the top spec is all but useless for a gaming rig anyway. The firepros run worse than an 8800 on games. And no game is coded for one xeons power let alone 2 lol. But they are the supreme computers for Digital randering and video editing. the Fire pro cards makes my 3960X intel CPU look like a 486, when it comes to Hard where accelerated rendering.

But as of not needing to upgrade. The type of people that will be buying the top spec are going to be those using it for its intended purpose as in Rendering, rather than Farmville on facebook. And as such they tend to upgrade often. As the better the hardware the faster they can render, meaning the mor ethey can produce. I can see it being a great investment for someone that makes a lot of money out of Youtube videos wanting to grab one. As it will eat up and spit out vids ready for upload in no time at all.

But for now ill stick to building my Pre Heresy World eaters Hackintosh for my Blogging lol.
