Well. Here's hoping. I came to work on DMO at the tail end of the project when everything was already badly misfiring, and got to see what went wrong. In a nutshell: A metric poop ton of stuff can and will go wrong. DMO had everything that article states they want in the game but... it didn't happen.
But #1 advice to the new studio: NAIL YOUR STORY DOWN NOW, then make the mmo. If you don't have a story then designers can't design areas and art can't make them.

Ya, the second link wasn't up when I first looked at the post. Although I still don't know what to say.....so many opportunities.. I remember when it was announced that there was going to be a computer game for Crimson Skies, and the follow up Xbox game would involve Mike Pondsmith. Cyberpunk was one of my all time favorites. I loved crimson skies. What could go wrong!

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
