Gamescape North in San Rafael will be hosting a combat patrol tournament from 11:00-6:00, Saturday July 6th.
Combat Patrol is short-form Warhammer 40,000 in which players command a small patrol of perhaps two squads and a light vehicle. The format was originally designed to create fast and fun games to be played in the course of under an hour. Using it for a tournament will allow players to have the fun of competing in a tournament setting without having to invest an entire day/weekend to do so. in 6th edition, its a wonderful excuse to run your allied detachment all on its very own. This is 40k simple, fast and highly effective!
ARMY LIMITATIONS
-6 Turn limit
-500 Point Maximum
-Minimum One Troops Choice
-0-1 HQ
-Remaining points may be chosen from anywhere in the Force Organization chart.
- "Victory points" will be used to determine a victor. (Slay the Warlord, First Blood and Linebreaker are irrelevant)
Disallowed Units:
- No model may have more than 2 Wounds.
- No 2+saves of any kind. (cover saves bonuses still apply, however will not be allowed to bring the save better than 3+)
- No Special/Unique Characters.
- No Armor value exceeding 33 (Counting Front+Side+back; Ie. an Imperial Guard Chimera F12, S10, B10 =32). Necron's Quantum shielding will not work as normal, but however count the vehicle as no longer being Open Topped.
- No Ordnance weapons or those that use a Large Blast Template.
- No Fortifications
- No Reserves (yes this means no Fliers)
Warlord traits will not be used.
Games will be played on 4'x'4 tables.
Many armies may find that few if any HQ/Heavy Support are acceptable in this format. This is intended as many are simply much too hard to destroy within such small games. In addition the games are to represent two patrols sent to scout ahead of their army's main force. It is simply unfathomable that a High ranking Imperial officer, Champion or some gigantic monstrosity would be sent on patrol duty, or even be able to perform the task. The big guns frequently find glory in our regular games, here it's time for the little guys to shine. Rough Riders, Genestealers, Sentinels, I'm looking at you!
SET-UP
1. Both Players roll a D6; the player that scores higher gets to choose his/her deployment zone; their opponent takes the opposite zone. Units must be deployed within 12" of their player's table edge. The player that scored the higher result now deploys one unit in his/her deployment zone. The players take turns deploying a unit at a time until both their entire forces are on the table. (Reserves are not used in this mission).
2. Roll for who gets the first turn. Highest score may choose whether to go first or second. (There is no stealing of initiative)
MISSION OBJECTIVE
Both players must attempt to eliminate as much of the enemy forces as possible.
At the end of each game, players will receive points equal to the points value of the enemy units they harmed (see below)
