Hey guys I have been playing warhammer for about 11 months and really quite enjoyed it. But today a friend asked if I wanted to start warmachine with him. He offered me the Khador side for 30$ minus the master. What do you think? And what do I need to know about this game before I start playing it. Are there any things that can easily be abused to make the game just no fun? I know the tournament scene for warhammer is that way what about for WM/H?

Welcome to the game, Nafarious. So basically, the best way to start WMH is to play with the battlebox (meant for starters), play like 10-12 games and slowly expand to see what you like.
He offered me the Khador side for 30$ minus the master
This is kinda vague, exactly what models do you have?
master
I assume you mean the warcaster? The warcaster is the most important model type in the game.

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel. |

As he said, it kinda of depends on what you are getting, but if you're getting even a single Khador jack. Its probably worth it
and Warcaster is important except they are also cheap
and the few things that get abused tends to only give the abusers a minor advantage and even then it all has multiple counters in every army. So once you know how to counter it, they become much more manageable.

Is it the battlebox or half of the two-player starter? Both are probably worth it but the two-player starter more so. Not getting the warcaster only means you need to buy one on your own. The box comes with Kommander Sorscha, but I recommend the Butcher or Vlad, the dark prince. You MUST have a warcaster of some kind to play and if you try without one the game both breaks down and you are at a severe disadvantage.
The game has many very powerful options but it is also very well balanced so the only unfun things are how your opponent plays the strong things and her/his sportsmanship. I suppose that part is true for any game though.

I am getting the khador half of the battle box minus the warcaster he wants to keep her. But I figure because its only $30 for the set that usually looks like it would be $50+ to buy I think it seems like a good deal.

Sounds like a good deal to me also. What would be helpful is knowing if you are getting 2 Dreadnaught sized guys or the set with them and 5 Terminator sized guys. As a warning Khador relies on their infantry also non cavalry 40&50 mm based units are slow as molasses. Don't let this put you off trying Warmachine it's just something good to know if you like the game and want to stick with Khador.

I will just do a quick and general run down of Khador, Khador are the faction that overall has a slightly below average movement, no light warjacks, and they tend to have low defense as well (some things not all, mainly jacks).
however, they make up for this by having incredibly high armor, Khador are the toughest guys around, their jacks are well armoured, their man o wars(the terminator looking guys) are well armoured. Khador also hit like a tonne of bricks in combat, they have powerful melee weapons on troops and warjacks alike. They also have access to cheap and cheerful troops in the form of winter guard, who have a lot of ways to be able to buff them and make them greater than the sum of their parts.
They also have many other great units.
They have a lot of great warcasters too, sorscha is a good one, butcher is just nasty good, and many more.
If you want to know more about Khador go to (has all the other factions too)

Or for some Khador battle reports Wargamergirl on youtube has some great ones

I am not usually a fan of beasts of war, but this may be usefull.

I personally disagree with how they say Psorscha is sub par, any warcaster can be powerfull when used well.

I wouldn't abuse PP's customer service department. They do right by their players (or at least they have in my experience), so I really can't condone misleading them because your friend wanted to hang on to a warcaster.
Anyway, as far as where to go from what you have, I would imagine the next step would be to choose a caster, since they influence the overall way your army will play. What type of army are you aiming to build?

Just buy a caster, they are actually pretty cheap

I have now picked up:
Khador Deck
War Dog
Winterguard and Rocketeers Unit
Winter Guard Officer and Standard Bearer
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
Koldun Lord
Sorscha
Token Set Mk II
Card Sleeves
Manhunter
I think I am now all set for a 35 point game.

that looks really solid, since you have the deck, try out a few casters, with that list I'd suggest maybe trying irusk or Eirusk

I tried to base the list around sorcha and what came from the two player starter set. So my 35 point list is
Destroyer
Juggernaut
War Dog
5 Man-O-War Shocktroopers
10 Winterguard Infantry
Winterguard Officer & Standard
2 Winter Guard Rocketeers
Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich
Koldun Lord
then once I feel comfortable with this I am going to up it to 50 points and get some
Kayazy Assassins with and Underboss
Great Bears of Gallowswood
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
I really just picked up a manhunter because he looks awesome and I will find a way to use him late on.

eSorscha too, that will allow you to take the 3rd rocketeer and Winterguard are better under her with Iron Flesh and her various Winger Guard Actions.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Looks good, just be aware warmachine is more about details, like clever movement and positioning, than it is about the list, so dont get discouraged.
Also don't faceroll newbies too badly with your iron fleshed winterguard death star, new people especially have a ton of problems dealing with high defense since they dont know all the tricks to getting around it.
