I was both highly amused and slightly saddened to see a massive collection of Monsterpocalypse merchandise on sale at 5 Below. For those who don't live in the American midwest / Triangle, 5 Below is a super-cheap resale shop that sells tacky or cheap goods for relatively low prices (always 5 dollars or less! Get it?! Hah hah! It's so funny I forgot to laugh!) and that sometimes includes games.

So I passed up the huge pile of Heroclix and saw this beauty - a massive collection of prepainted figurines. Since I love a good RPG, I jumped at it and bought a large amount of these minis, figuring I could use some for D&D, Traveller, and so on.

But I think there could be an even better use. Does anyone have any experience converting any Monsterpocalypse miniatures for use in other games? I'm not looking to enter a tournament; I'm just shopping for clever ideas or experience.

For example, what's the best way to get these models off of the bases which they come glued to?

First off Welcome to Dakka.

I could see scale being an issue. but they would probably make great Monstrous Creatures. They could also be used as statues and such if you paint them up all dirty bronze and the like.

As to getting them off the bases, just apply pressure to two sides of the base (like bending them together downward) and the glue should snap off pretty easily.

That's very helpful. Yeah, I didn't think about scale but luckily they're pretty small and many of the units are fairly comparable (standing around 30mm tall.)

For the bigger guys, statues or monstrous creatures sounds ideal!

Thanks for the info on the base. I'll try that soon and post any updates I have here.

Do you guys have any experience with painting on pre-painted plastic? Should I just use my regular ol' Krylon / Citadel primer first?
