Hello DakkaDakka!
I'm new to all wargaming. My friend ( ) introduced me to W40k universe.

I want to play an Imperial Guard based on fictional planet Equilibrium, somewhere in Segmentum Pacificus.

Because I'm just a poor student, most of "original" models are just too expensive for me, so here's my first question:
What is community's opinion to conversions of vehicles, based on real ones and converted to W40k universe?

For example, Here is my WIP Panther Vanquisher wich is based on WW2 Panther tank.

(Inspiration for gun came from Stygies VIII pattern + I made an Atlas recovery vehicle from remanis of LRBT)

My friend told me the reactions are mostly negative (but I don't fully trust him) so I came here.
I plan to do more complex conversions of IG vehicles and airplanes.
(For example: Convert this little beauty into a Thunderbolt Fighter.)

Thank you for answers and have a nice day

Welcome to Dakka! I and a lot of friendly players don't care about conversions from non GW models, but a lot of players do. Just keep your eye out and ask for their permission. Sounds like a cool idea though!

Thank you for the welcome and answers guys.

So just the hardcore players cling on use of GW models only. Thats positive. Friend told me 99% of all players will now allow converted models.
Glad to hear it

The most important thing though with scrathcbuilds is to try and make it as close to scale as the actual model you are representing as this is what would cause the most arguments

Thanks for remark tuiman.
I'm using 1/48 scale. I have been looking on various forums and sites and most people says this one is best for scratchbuilds. W40k vehicles are ~1/40 scale. 1/35 is too big and suitable just for super-heavies.

Panther Vanqisher compared to original Leman Russ.

Leman is a bit shorter, bit higher and bit wider. Just moar boxy.
