Subject: Mordheim Pit Fighter Warband
|
 |
Lone Wolf Sentinel Pilot
|
Hey guys. I just bought the pit fighter boxed set at my FLGS, and built a warband from it. I've played Mordheim before, about a year ago, but it was with orcs and goblins. The Pit Fighter set only came with 6 models, and I don't have any extra bits to build more, so here is my list-
Heroes-
Pit King
Double Handed Weapon
Light Armor, Helmet
125gc
Pit Veteran
Light Armor, Helmet
Shield, Sword
80gc
Pit Veteran
Light Armor, Helmet
Sword, Axe
80gc
Henchmen-
Pit Fighter
Light Armor, Helmet
Sword, Sword
85gc
Pit Fighter- 35
Light Armor, Helmet
Axe, Buckler
75gc
Pursuer
Helmet
Javelin, Net
50gc
5gc left
Tell me what you think, and if you have any tips or tactics they would be much appreciated

I've been running a pit fighter warband in the local mordheim group for a few weeks, I've found pursuers to be an absolute must. I included as many as I could after kitting out my heroes mostly with the undead style, and one as orc style as I ran out of gold. Also the trident and buckler combo for the pursuers is epic. If they get charged (50/50 chance) then you get a re-rollable parry! They're great for setting up your charges.
Maybe take out the pit fighter henchmen and swap in the dwarf hero. Heroes are a must I'm afraid. I lost my pit king after my 3rd game and am feeling the strain with only 3. My henchmen have only got one advance available left on the chart and I haven't had any lad's got talent yet.
Try not to rely on the pit fighter special rule. My opponents found out after our first game not to charge into ruins. since then all my combats have been out of ruins.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I just re-read your post and realised you don't have any more bits! Any chance you can get hold of a sprue of chaos marauders? Tactics wise, your opponent will probably always out number you, so keep your pursuer out front to dodge the charges and then mob those that got through with the rest.

I'm going to purchase some chaos marauders or some other similar models hopefully soon, and I'll try out your advice. Thanks!

The chaos marauder standards are excellent for making tridents, I'll post some pics up later. I made most of my warband from the marauder box set, with the exception of the dwarf hero and my ogre (I had to save up over the course of 5 games to get him though, well worth the investment, especially if he gets Lads got talent). Made the tridents using the standard bearer pole arm, cut the spikey bits off the standard and glued in place. Nice and simple My warband at the minute has all the guys here except for the one to the right of the troll slayer, the pit king was knocked down by some rats and then torn to pieces by a vampire. It was only his second outing

Hey,
I'm just starting my pit fighters too.
Do you have any other general tips for running a successful pit fighter gang?
Unfortunately I'm not allowing myself to use a dwarf - there is no way I can see it fitting into my fluff

In all honesty my dwarf gets left behind trying to catch up more often than not, I only have him cause he's the leader of my warband and a nutter in combat if I can get him there, normally takes an extra turn or two though. Aside's from the tactics mentioned above I don't think there is any great secret to running a Pit Fighter gang, just remember to take lots of pursuers with the trident/buckler combo and pit fighters with sword and spiked gauntlets. Re-rollable parries everywhere! I've found them a very fun war band to run, especially since I got the ogre with sword and spiked gauntlet combo.
