The Forge World MKIV Command Set captain comes with the option of an arm holding a crested helmet. This is a horsehair type crest that runs down the middle of the helmet rather than the transverse crests that run ear to ear.
I wanted to try and reproduce one for use as a head.

This is the result:

I used 1mm and 0.5mm styrene sheet cut into 3mm wide strips for the box. I used both to get the height I wanted.
Both strips were bent around a pen to get a curve in them.
The 1mm strip was then superglued onto the helmet vent and held in place for a couple of seconds until it stuck. Styrene and resin bond quickly, I'm not sure about plastic, that might take longer.
I glued the 0.5mm strip over the top and cut to shape after glue set.
I then cut a slightly wider strip of very thin styrene (don't know thickness) and glued that onto box. This wider bit forms the ridge.
A thin strip of 1mm styrene (not visible when finished) was then glued on (like a mohawk) to make it easier to hold the greenstuff to the box.
Greenstuff was then added taking care to keep it away from the edges of the box.
When cured enough the "hair" detail was added using the blade of the craft knife. The tip of the knife was used on the top.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Transverse crests will be a little more tricky as the box will have to be bent into shape without an underlying support meaning heat treatment.
Crests that follow the vent are relatively simple by comparison.

This is a pretty good tutorial, good work man. Did you try using a dire avenger crest though?

Thanks.
I pretty much wanted the same shape as the Forge World captain and the Eldar one is quite different.

I have before, it's far too big for a normal space marine head; it looks silly.
