The suggestion is simple: allow an Ironclad Dreadnought to upgrade to Front Armour 14, Side Armour 13 and an additional Hull Point for 50 or so points, but make it gain Slow and Purpouseful, to represent the additional weight of the armour plates. This'd hopefully give the Dreadnought a much better chance of living through today's S7 and S8 heavy meta long enough to actually do something.

Thoughts?

If he's got SnP then he's not going to be getting into assault that much, which is what Ironclads are pretty much designed to do.

You're more or less already relegated to Drop Podding them in, but that runs into the issue of eating lots and lots of anti-tank fire while you stand around. Having AV14 would let you weather the storm much better, whereas the SnP would be a tradeoff for increased chances of not exploding before you get to do anything 9 times out of 10.

It kind of rubs against the old tradition of having a maximum of 13 frontal armor on a walker, but I don't have a problem with it...especially if modeled properly!

Think about the other vehicles in the game with AV14: Land Raiders, Monoliths, Leman Russes...it just doesn't make sense with that trend to be able to have that level of armor on a walker.

The reason why we have "today's S7 AND S8 heavy meta" is because of hull points, because now glancing hits are good enough in volume. Also, somewhere along the way someone realized that S7 can pen AV12, aka the max front armor of most transports. If you make AV14 that much more common, you're just going to see a rise in meltas and lascannons.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
