Anybody recommend it?

If it's cheap, then yes. To me it felt like a game to just screw around in with your friends, what with friendly fire always being on, and death but a quick beam to the face away.

Friendly fire is inevitable.

Get it and play with friends. It's great fun, with some extremely challenging DLC.

I too would recommend it and it becomes exponentially more fun as you add more friends to the game.

I had tons of fun playing it with a friend. It took us ages to even complete the tutorial without one of us getting "accidentally" killed in a rather humorous way by his teammate or committing suicide while trying something new ("what could possibly go wrong if i combine A & B? ").
The basic spell combinations and later unlocked more complex spells are a refreshing and fun way to cope with the game world and it's inhabitants.

I don't know about long-term fun or solo-play-ability though, as i've only experienced it together with a friend for two laughter filled afternoons until we both find the time to continue.

Solo is much less fun...
Thunderbolt is a great spell though... admittedly impossible to actually aim it so you have a good chance of exploding a team mate but they can be revived.

From what I've seen of it, it is a great game when you play it with friends, less so on your own.

My advice would be keep watching steam and buy it when it's on sale.

It is fairly easy to aim with. I never missed with a thunder bolt spells, but I swear the hit detection on the rock and ice shard spells is broken.

No the space bar thunderbolt which is random and you can't aim.
Also pro-tip: Always cross the streams.

You can aim the thunderbolt.

When playing solo runs I was a freaking beast at it.

That's what I meant. The thunderbolt is very accurate if you know what you are doing. Death is harder to control. He has a tendency to go after the caster.

I've never noticed a tendency for it to hit what I wanted it to...

The thunderbolt hits close to where the mouse cursor is.

Death goes after the guy with the lowest health percentage. Very easy to abuse.

Also, rogue costume ftw, although the space marine one is pretty damn cool, if not terribly impractical.

Really? I thought he targets who ever is around the mouse cursor at the time.

I always use the SM armor. I like the +24 health regen and the armor bonus.

On the other hand, not being able to heal with the life spell sucks.
