After playing a few games of X-wing and looking for more of the models at my LGS, I saw a whole wall of models for this game. World War I and II. The models looked spectacular, and there was a whole butt load of them. And , from what info I've gathered so far, the mechanics are very similar to X-wing. The core rule set was about 35 USD but didn't include any models. I was hoping someone here would have some first hand input on game play, before I go and spend the money.

Thanks in advance.

Wings of Glory is Wings of War 2.0. I ahve played alot of Wings of war but have only used the cards and never the minis. its fast and fun BUT there really is not much to it.
Kind of a beer and pretzels game.
Think of it as X-wing light.

It is a good way to introduce anyone to gaming though. You can teach the basic edition of the game and be playing in under 10 minutes .

If you have any specific questions just ask.

Oh hey, look at that. Searching Wings of Glory actually brought up a bunch more info. That might have been my problem getting info.

So it seem to be just a plane on plane kind of game? Not squadrons?

My group usually does squadrons. Its really fun when there are LOTS of planes on the table. ESP as ,unlike X-win,g WoG has collisions!

Excellent! Thank you for the input.
Do you play the WW1 or WW2 version? Are they compatible? Is the game pilot -centric or plane -centric? Do pilots matter at all?

I have played both but own and play World War I the most, as i have been a fascinated by the air war since i was a child.

They are not compatible. In the WWI game planes have 1 speed. While in WWII planes have 2 which you can switch from each phase.

The game is geared to be plane-centric but WoG added ace pilot rules that can add a bit of a flair.

Stormcrow, thank you. Just a few more.

You said you've never played with the models, only the cards, but have you handled a model? And if so, what is the quality? Hard plastic or soft plastic? Delicate?

I've come across a description of the WW2 version that seems to include ground troops and anti-aircraft. Is this just WW2 only, or is this available for WW1 as well? Thank you again Stormcrow, you have been awesome.

The models are more a hard ridged plastic then the soft bendable Xwing models. And of good quality.

Their are rules for ground fire. Both from infantry and AA. As well as rules for strafing and bombing.
Also , if your interested you may want to check out Sails of Glory. . Which is similar rules but naval combat. It should be out soon.

Your very welcome. And please ask away if you have any more questions.

Soft bendable??? I don't know where you bought your x-wing models but you should probably talk to someone about it lol, they are plastiresin, they are about the same durability as GW plastics. I mean ya you can bend the x-wing cannons and the tie wing struts if you apply enough pressure, but I definitely wouldn't call them soft and bendable... and believe me, at this point I have stripped, hacked, converted, snapped things off and re-built enough of em to know...
