I'm not sure on what paint to use to shade this yellow any suggestions?

Cheers

Sepia would give a nice warm shading to it but Earthshade would darken it up a bit.

What exactly are you wanting for shading it? Do you want to darken it up or make it still have that bright coloration?

I was thinking Sepia as well but wanted some opinons before I went ahead and did it. I would like to keep the nice bright helmets so I'm probably going to shade it by applying a wash of whatever directly into the recesses.

That's what I used to do on my imperial fists, followed by a drybrush of the base yellow again. Now I apply a wash of thinned burnt umber directly into the recesses, gives a much neater job than washing the whole thing!

You're trying to do imperial Fists right?

The Fists use a muted yellow so, I'd recomend a sepia wash, i.e AP strong or soft tone.

Though if you want a brighter yellow I might Recomend a black or yellow wash.

He's doing Blood Angels or a Blood Angels Successor, I think.

The chalice on the helmet is a Blood Angels piece and the Assault Marine below is painted a very nice red.

Yes they are my Blood Amgel Assault marines

I went with a very light sepia wash into the recesses in the end I think once I've finished the detail on the helmet it will all tie in. Thanks for all the help

Here's another picture.

It looks fantastic.

Are you going to pick the chalice out in another color though?

It blends in too much I think and could stand to be picked out in white or another color.

Thanks

Yea I'm thinking of a bright gold or a purple which will contrast with the yellow quite nicely.

Looks great, though I would probaly recomend reddish-purple eyes. Makes a better contrast.

I would go for green eyes with a white chalice, personally.
