Earthlings are being asked to smile to the heavens tonight, in order to make history.
At about 10.30pm the Cassini probe spacecraft will turn around in its current orbit around Saturn and take a picture of the Earth.
It will be the first time that Earth's inhabitants will know in advance that their picture is being taken from over a billion kilometres away.
Those behind the event, The Day the Earth Smiled, said "it will be a day to revel in the extraordinary achievements in the exploration of our solar system that have made such an interplanetary photo session possible”.
They added “it will be a day for all of us to smile and celebrate life on the Pale Blue Dot”.
Reminded me of this site for some reason which has been updated very funkily.

"I say, Xghtarrrrnghl, these 'humans' are an odd lot."
"Oh? How so Yjanopolopolopolop?"
"It appears that upon the inception of the transmission we intercepted, they were taking part in some form of ritualised shaping of their cranium-coverings."
"Really? Fascinating. Do we know what sort of effect this has had upon these 'humans', if any?"
"I was already attempting to search for previous instances of ritualised shapings, however I also intercepted further communiques originating from another human source."
"What did you discover?"
"I'm not too sure, however I believe that their culture is based mainly on the desire to consume vast amounts of physiologically-harmful foodstuffs and liquids, wage pointless wars upon one another, partake in liberal acts of procreation without the aim of actually procreating, attacking one another for how and with whom they attempt to procreate, and that they are dominated by small, fluffy creatures that are deprived of the foodstuff known as "cheezburger"."
"...Do you ever think that perhaps we came all this way for nothing?"

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
