First is the misses a miniature player and if so have you asked if she want to use rules meant for the game she wants to try. Before you start trying other rules you might want to run it pass the one that want to try the game. You are going to try the game for her right?

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Gave her the rule book yesterday so will wait and see although she really doesnt like every one hitting on the same roll (she played dark angels vs my orks so she likes to have diffrences in hitting and stuff although prob if its in her favour lol j/k)

her best thing about the game is she loves the models and having stat cards in front of her but she is not liking some of the fundmental rules and that it looks unbalanced points wise and hates the storys which to me would tend to mean a no chance of playing it but me being a typical guy is wrong again lol becuase she realy likes the models that I will have to paint so some alt rules would prob clintch the deal and means i could dust off the fleets I have

but if there is none will have to spend some time tweaking them

Actually there are a lot of things that modify rolls. Tiny torpedoes hit on 3s if i recall, cloud generators make shots hit on a 5+ etc.

tbh well fleshed out naval based games aren't as common, not for a steampunk setting at any rate. If you have a fleet on the shelf give her a go with the rules rather than just looking at them. The game is fairly well balanced, and I was remarking the other day having played against the new Chinese fleet that SG are doing well to avoid powercreep by updating the old fleets too (my EotBS can finally get a dreadnought thats worth a damn)

the EotBS truely needs help there dread was god awful and still feel EotBS got the rawest deal there gunship and dread where just awful.

yeah seen the chinese fleet book seem decent and should complament the blazing suns well without throwing off the blazing sun style of play.

really like the looks of the aussie fleet

unfortunetly have to go pick up my dystopian wars stuff from mates house first which will try and do tomorow typicaly have the books here and the models on other side of the city aint it jus the way lol

but you are right about there not being many naval games kicking about

ottomon empire does seem kind of powerful from what I have read prob the strongest of the last 4 so with bit of luck can get her to give the game a fair try as she went right off 40k

In my experiance the best balance game was kob vs prussian that still the case ? (been a good while since I played last I played the french just came out which must be an utter bain in the EotBS side so much aa)

You are kidding about the gunships right? The EotBS ones were some of the best in the core factions. Even the cruiser wasn't bad, it was just a case of being stupid not to upgrade them to gunships for the price difference. The new dreadnought though nice wasn't hurting the EotBS though, good use of dual Ika's has never held be back from eating the other factions dreads.

Can't say iv had the pleasure to play the new aussies though, but their new air fleet changes to the british air seems very punishing. The chinese are powerful but need some figuring out on how to handle them. Seem like a pretty good starter fleet though provided you can keep track of all the MARs for them.

Actually to begin with the prussians were more of a "hardmode fleet" while the KoB were I think the second easiest fleet to get to grips with, but they've lost a bit of the extreme learning curve. If I recall the major change to the PE is that those silly rear fixed Tesla guns are all gaining arcs and Lethal Strike on the units that lacked them, plus are getting a good amount of synergy with their new Spearshluder guns. All in all actually a pretty good time to be Prussian i'd say.

always thought the fsa had the best gunship will need to look thru the rules again but always thought the EotBS had a very low powered gunship with a dreadul turret and they lost the 360 for the rockets not that it effected them much with the sharp turn

will need to look thru it all again just need to pick my stuff up from my mates have a large Kob fleet sitting there and a small EotBS fleet and a handfu lof fsa

Nope the Eotbs gunship has never lost the 360 rockets? The only things without 360 rockets are the gyros with a rocket broadside and and the yurgi's/the new rocketboat mediums that have fixed fores.
The FSA comparison, yes straight up 1v1 the FSA has the better gunship. The japanese ones though are cheaper, can use a unit of 3. have 3 weapon systems that can hit in all 4 range bands fairly well and when reinforced into a cruiser squad can get a disgusting amount of boarding dice. It all depends how you look at the units in a void or not

Yep, as i said i think earlier in the thread with the new fleets coming out they're updating the older nations. Some of the weaker units in them (EotBS dread, KoB subs etc) are getting V2 rules, and most the fleets are getting fleet wide rules tweaks (eotbs is getting Incendiary fire on the few units that dont have it, the fixed channel prussian tesla guns are getting full broadside arcs etc).
