Hi, my name is thTrickster, and I'm a freshly minted 40K addict.

I spent a good part of my childhood playing pen and paper games (3E D&D, Call of Cthulu and eventually D20 Modern), but I always found myself staring at the Warhammer 40K and Fantasy kits at my FLGS. Alas, my budget wouldn't allow for such an extravagant hobby, so my ventures into tabletop gaming ended with character sheets and polyhedral dice. Sadly, I grew out of such games; my fond memories of them lying dormant as I ventured forth into adult life.

And then came a few months ago, when my friend invited me to his brother's house to play a game called "Mordheim." He knew that I had some experience with dice-rolling, and figured that I would enjoy it. He was right. We played a full campaign over the course of a few visits, and one night with the inevitable conclusion (Skaven victory) drawing near, my friend suddenly exclaimed, "So who's up for a game of 40K?"

By 2 AM I was hooked.

And that's the story of how I started my CSM army, and how I ended up here on Dakka after a brief few weeks of lurking. Hello Dakka, hope to get to know you all!

Welcome! I will have to look into this game Mordheim. I have been a DnD/World of Darkness player for years, kept away from 40k for the same reason as you...$$$. Now that I have begun, however, I regret not starting sooner. Good to have you!

welcome friend, and very nice story you have there! good to see people are trying to encourage the 40k in people....

if you are still having problems with budget, try doing some cost cutting. look on eBay for some bargains, or make your army a little more elite so you don't have to buy as much stuff! very nice tactic for cash strapped hobbyists in my experience. or, if you are any good at painting/modelling, perhaps lend out your services to cover your hobby costs?

just some ideas, but good luck anyways, hope you have a great wargaming experience!

As for the budget issues, those were my restrictions as a youth. Now with a full-time job, I've got a hobby budget... for better or for worse.
