Tea-Kettle of Blood

A couple of years ago, when I came back to the hobby, Warmachine had completely vanished from the tournament scene. Being a new dad, with a wife and a fairly demanding job, the way that I found to help promote Warmachine back up was to do battle reports of the few games that my schedule allowed me to play and post them in our general miniatures gaming forum to try and wrestle interest back up in the game.

Last week when the results for the first half of this year were published, WMH was in first place for all the categories, having narrowly beat Flames of War! As a way to commemorate this, I decided to do a tournament report of the next tournament that I took part in, so when our PG announced an unscheduled tournament for next weekend I decided that this was as good an opportunity as any.

So, the tournament is going to be SR2013, 50 pts, death clock, two lists with character restrictions and since we have 14 people signed up so far (to a tournament that was announced with literally less than a week's notice and in August), we are probably going to have 4 rounds.

So, on to the tournament, I'm going to be taking my Legion for this one and these are my lists (sorry for the quality, get used to it since all the pictures of the tournament will be taken with a tablet):

Points: 50/50
Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight
* Nephilim Protector
* Nephilim Soldier
* Scythean
Blighted Nyss Legionnaires (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Blighted Nyss Swordsmen (Leader and 9 Grunts)
* Blighted Nyss Swordsmen Abbot & Champion
Spawning Vessel (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
Gatorman Witch Doctor
Incubus
Incubus
Succubus

Meet my Rhyas list! I'm finding myself in a "grinding" mood with my lists lately, and after having ran a pThagrosh tier list somewhat successfully in a previous tournament I decided to try and make a jam list for Rhyas (also inspired by a few MoM podcasts).

The basic idea behind the list is pretty straightforward, just move forward as fast as possible and for every tough / stealth Niss that my opponent manages to kill, I get a possible Incubus and also a corpse for the pot, hopefully allowing me to out-attrition my opponent into submission.

The Scythean is in there for the feat, the Protector is there to try and keep Rhyas safe (because to take advantage of the feat and Dash she needs to play fairly forward), and the Soldier is there for Massacre (and because I literally don't know how to spend those 5 points).

Points: 50/50
Tiers: 4
Vayl, Consul of Everblight
* Harrier
* Shredder
* Angelius
* Angelius
* Archangel
* Ravagore
Spawning Vessel (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
2 Spell Martyrs

And this is my variation on Vayl's Machinations of Shadows Tier 4.

My theory for this one is that Gargantuans are better used as "normal" warbeasts instead of as centre pieces like Colossals are used in Warmachine. With this theory in mind, the Archangel will give me comparable firepower with a second Ravagore, with much better late game clean up capability. Oh, and a turn 1 16" run also helps!

Well, that is all for today, hopefully next week I'll post pictures and battle reports of the tournament itself.

Well, regardless of how you do in the tournament, your models look awesome. The painted ones anyway. (I've got quite a few that need painting myself).

Thanks, I'm a very slow painter and since I found out that I wouldn't be able to attend the WTC, my painting motivation went down the drain for a few months... And having 4 diferent factions doesn't help as well, most of my Cygnar is painted but Legion and the rest are lagging a bit behind.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the flesh shade that can be seen on the shepherd? I just can't make my Nyss flesh seem to come out right, and I like the look of yours.
